I wanted to get some input on this scope pros and cons. I will be mounting it on a Savage model 10 predator 243. I hunt coyotes and might shoot some prairie dogs.

Re: Trijicon Accu-Point 5-20x50

I have this scope with the standard reticle and green dot on an AR-15 in .204 Ruger. The rifle is set up as a varminter. I think if you mount this on a 20 MOA base you will have plenty of elevation for coyote hunting.

The glass is very good and I like the exposed turrets. The little green dot is very visible in daylight and naturally attracts your eye to the target. The dot is just the right size in my opinion. The brightness of the dot can be adjusted by covering or opening shade on the glow in the dark material. Even if there is not enough light to power the dot, you still have a regular crosshair.

I would not hesitate to buy this scope for varmint hunting.

Re: Trijicon Accu-Point 5-20x50

New to SH and first post, but I do have an opinion. I have 2 of these scopes mounted on very different platforms for different purposes. First one is on Armalite AR-10 Super SASS. Zeroed at 100 it will reach out to 650 yards with turret adjustment. Glass extremely clear, good eye relief and green dot very helpful in low light without battery power. Hog killin machine.

Second is mounted on Browning X-Bolt 300 WSM. Excellent clarity, good field of view for hunting ranges.

Different applications, but works well for both.

If the unique system of illumination that the Trijicon uses is especially important to you, then there is no competition for this scope.

I guess I'll play the devil's advocate on other points. I first have to admit that I didn't have this particular model of Accupoint, but from what I understand, they all use the same glass. At the time that I had the scope I was at a point where I was just getting serious about scoping my rifles and was tearing my hair out trying to find something that I liked while trying to filter through all of the internet info that I was gathering.

I wound up trying the 3-9X40 Accupoint and an ACOG TA33 and pitted those against a Sightron SIII that was comparable to the Accupoint and a Sightron SII Big Sky 1.24-5X that I compared to the ACOG.

On an overall, I found that they all had good glass, but the Sightron scopes had overall clearer glass, were better at gathering light, had less distortion and better resolution. If I had just gotten the Trijicon products and used them, I likely would have been pleased with their performance; however, in head to head comparisons, I liked the Sightron scopes better for my purposes.

I guess the point I'm getting to is that better glass can be had for the price point. You just have to decide what you want in a scope. Like I said, Trijicon pretty much has the market cornered in terms of illumination.
