I am heading off early next year to my first Precision Rifle class at TDI in Ohio. I have taken all of their handgun classes and several Tactical Rifle classes, but have never done any precision work. The class will be shooting out to 400 yards. After the class I will be using this set up for ground hog/coyote hunting. Our hunting spot would work out to a max shot of about 300 yards. I searched the forum and found an enormous amount of incredibly helpful information, but had a few specific questions.

I have run Aimpoints forever, but am currently experimenting with a Bushnell SMRS 1x6.5 on my SCAR 16s. I plan on using this set up a bit just to test the limitations of the SCAR.
I will also be running a POF 16" 5.56 for comparison and it will be my hunting set up. For the POF I am looking at the Trijicon 3-9x40and 2.5-10x56 Accupoints in green mil-dot. I like the no battery set up a lot and was able to look through the glass of a 1-4 Accupoint at my local shop. I felt like the glass was significantly better than the Bushnell SMRS 1x6.5.

Here are my questions:
- Am I missing anything scope wise to have a good learning experience for the class?
- Will the turrets being MOA and the reticle being mil-dot be a major issue?
- Are the 50 or 56 Accupoints gaining me anything over the 40 for my applications?

Thanks in advance for all of your assistance. My apologies if I missed this detail in my search of the forum.

Re: Trijicon Accupoint- Mildot vs MOA

I have one of the 3-9x40 green dot / mil dot scopes
Great scope, the 56 will get you a few more minutes of shooting past sundown, literally a few, not 30

Under 500 yards and under 10x magnification you really won't be hampered by mis matched turret / Reticle nor SFP vs FFP.

Good scope, great for hunting and as long as you aren't wanting to dial in your elevation (at your distances you don't need to) and just run say a 2-250 yard zero and know your corrections you will be fine.
