Rifle Scopes trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

I seem to be the only one on the planet that runs a TX30 Tripower and likes it.
TX30.jpg

(Even the last Trijicon rep that I talked to said he hated it.)

It is typical Trijicon durable.
Three modes of illumination.
(Fiber, Tritium, & Battery)
When using the fiber, the brightness is automatically adjusted for optimum contrast.
Chevron reticule is fantastic for both fast acquisition and precision shots.

I also use it with an ARD.
The ARD requires me to use proper technique by opening both eyes and focusing on the target.
(If you don't, all you see is a honey comb of black.)

After using mine for several years, I can't image using any other zero power optic on my carbine.
It has served me well and continues to impress me.

YMMV...

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

that is a neat optic, but it hasn't taken off yet. i find a lot of guys don't shoot a reflex sight with both eyes open, which to me defeats the purpose of a reflex sight

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

Weren't the first gen Tripowers a plastic body?

I have a Reflex2 and like it, it does most things well and a few things not great, but it has no power switch, always ready to go.

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

I think the Gen I was a polymer housing and it also had a provision for using mini Calume light sticks.
(I guess that made it a Quadpower instead of a Tripower.)

The Gen II switched over to the typical Trijicon cast aluminum body and eliminated the chamber in the upper left area for the light sticks.

The current model Gen III has a squared off objective that is threaded for an ARD and has lower power tritium to allow it to be used with NVGs.

Due to complaints of the fiber optic "doughnut" glowing / blooming at night, the TX30 ships with a cover that was developed to seal it off.
(Haven't tested it with NVGs, but the cover works well to eliminate visible light.)
Latest Gen III is also about $200 more expensive.

Quite the evolution...

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

I've wanted to try a tripower with an Aimpoint 3x behind it. The chevron probably makes it way nicer.

RMR sounds badass, but holy cow is it expensive and on top of that I'm pretty sure it doesn't share the same mounting method as Dr. Optics. I think at that point I might be more inclined to buy an Aimpoint micro.

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

The chevron is the way to go.
If you ever get a chance to try one, I doubt you will want to ever use a dot again.

The thing is freaking 14.4 MOA, so there is no searching for it while coming up on target.
And because you use the point of the chevron like a front sight post, there isn't any obstruction like a red dot.

That coupled with not having to dick around with brightness adjustments makes things sooooo nice...
(I have only used the battery power once and that was just to try it out!)

The RMR has pretty much all the same benefits but in a small package.
I doubt that it is as durable as the TX30 though.

I got lucky and found my TriPower on GunBroker.
Some dealer had bought a case of them to get the price break so he could fill an order to the local PD.
Once he found out I was Coast Guard he made the deal even sweeter.
($500 and he also threw in the A.R.M.S. mount!)

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

man you got a smoking deal on that sight, the arms mount is 100$ by it self. i think i could get close.

how did the battery illumination work for you?

in the next couple of years i want to do a 308 battle rifle, probably a pof p308 or lwrc repr, or maybe a scar heavy, my plan is to use a nightforce 2.5-10x32 with a mini reflex of some kind on top as a close range sight, same concept as a dr optic. until i get that project done, i want to play with it on my ruger mark III. i mounted an aimpoint r1 on there and that was pretty fun.

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

I reallly like the Trijicon, and it is definitely a great brand. However, I cant shoot with one with both eyes open. I had a fixed 4x and it was awesome at 100 yards +, but for up close it was a little difficult to use.

I have always liked the multiple sources of power for the Trijicon products. For "battle readiness" I know a lot of guys hate relying on batteries, even though the aimpoint has phenominal battery reliablility.

Nice optic though.

Yea, I'm very pleased with the deal I got on the TX30 + Mount.
I had been stalking this guy's Gunbroker adds for months trying to get the best price and also justify spending the money.
Just so happens to be one of those times where things aligned themselves and everything worked out for both of us.
(Doesn't happen to me very often!)
I think this was the guy's last unit.

When I received it, I found out it was a GEN II and not a GEN III.
Which wouldn't have been a big issue, except for the fact that I had already purchased and ARD for it and only the GEN III models have threaded objectives.
So, I contacted Trijicon and they Retrofitted it to the GEN III Spec at no charge.
Says a lot about the company.

The battery illumination works well and also has NVG settings.(14 day / 6 night vision)
It has a memory that returns it to the previous brightness setting.
What I don't like about it is that it takes two of those funky "1/3 N" cell batteries.
Also the run time on those batteries doesn't come close to Aimpoint or Eotech.
(110 Hrs on the lowest daytime setting and 10 hrs on the highest setting.)
It does have a 2 hour time out on it if you leave it on and has a low battery indicator.

I really do not see much need for the battery though.
When your eyes are adjusted, the ambient light present in a low light situation is still adequate to allow you to use the fiber or tritium.
The battery portion of the sight allows for a backup source of illumination and also give you the ability to crank up the brightness if you wish.

For your Battle Rifle project, you should see if Trijicon will hook you up with a demo RMR to put on top.
I would be curious to hear some feedback on it.

Yea, have it on an AR10, great scope. Get the mil dot reticle. I have closed the window on the fiber optic so there is no center illumination until it gets dark. Be advised, the tritium ain't real bright, usable in low light, but not super bright in daylight (though I've never understood why people care.) The center dot, when illuminated, doesn't bloom, it is the size of the crosshair center, which is good.

It does have limited elevation, so don't put it on a 1000-yard gun.

Turrets are good, glass is good, fairly easy to get behind; at the top end, site picture is nice when you get it but not real easy to get - just like anything >20X.

For a 600 yard gun, it is great. I highly recommend.

I just looked through one of those for the first time a couple days ago. You're right in that it is typical Trijicon tough. I could definitely feel the solid build quality. I loved the thing, but I didn't buy it because reticle is way too small. I thought that reticle would be bigger, but it's tiny. I was really disappointed.

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

that is a very nice scope, but yeah your are limited on elevation. i like the illumination on these scopes, the problem you find with some is the illumination is too bright in low light conditions. a night, small point in the middle with a dim glow is perfect

I was thinking for a 10FP .308

I doubt I will be going past 600m. I still have to get good at 300m.

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

In case anyone was interested, I just recieved an Amazon E-mail advertising a Tri-Power for $550.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GU66RU/ref=pe_62860_15740980_pe_vfe_t1
Description says that it is the latest version and in the factory sealed package.
(The picture on Amazon is of the Gen I though.)
If the description is correct, that is a smokin good deal if anyone is in the market.

No offense intended to the OP.
Just thought that I would pass along the info.

Re: trijicon sights - what are you hunting for

that is a good deal on the tri power, those are some neat sights. plus with amazon you know it's legit.

rancid coolaid, give me a shout next time, we're running some specials on trijicon optics
