Sidearms & Scatterguns trimming down glock grips

i have seen quite a few glocks for sale on various forums that the owner trimmed down to meet the size of the next smaller glock. 17 trimmed down to 19 length, or a 19 trimmed down to 26 length. (i have zero experience with the 26)

what's the point? i have heard the argument for the longer sight radius with the shorter grip length for concealability. i get that, but within 10 yards, let's say the 17 vs the 19 sight radius, to me, the she accuracy is the same.

so why bother?

I got a good deal on a 22 but wanted the grip size of the 23. Plus 23 mags seemed to be more readily available around me. It was easy to do and worked exactly as I wanted it to. Plus I can't leave well enough alone

Other than to help conceal the pistol, I have no idea why someone would shorten the grip of a Glock to accept the next smaller size magazine. Seems you would lose some degree of control by doing so, not to mention the reduction in magazine capacity - unless you used the next size up magazine which would defeat the purpose.

Personally, I don't like the way Glocks feel in my hand in factory configuration so I use a dremel with sanding wheel to knock off the finger grooves and smooth off the factory grip finish. Then take a wood burner and stipple to my liking. I've never thought about shortening the grip. Makes no sense to me but to each his own.

Unless of course the state limit is 15 then it helps a shitload. Maybe you have a buddy in austria who will whip you up a batch of 15 rd g17 mags ?

Well, you learn something new every day. Guess that answers the OP's question. Yet another reason not to move to New Jersey

Here are the benefits I see to doing such job on Glock models.
1. Better suited for concealed carry with a shorter grip so the firearm does not print as much.
2. Longer sight radius.
3. Higher velocity of the longer barrel with the frame height of a more concealed carry friendly option.

I can justify getting something like this done, and have though about it myself a while back but didn't go through with it. For me the #1 and #3 reason I listed are the most beneficial reasons in wanting to do this.

Longer barrels are easier to conceal than longer grips. So a long barrel, short grip combo works great. If you want the magazine capacity back, you can also still run the longer mags.

I wonder if this voids your Glock warranty? Not that I have ever needed the warranty....

i've been doing IDPA and USPSA for my first season this summer. the military guys always talk about combat accurate, and others talk about "grouping" accuracy.

No, the longer sight radius would not matter in a CQC self defense situation, it would help when precision shots are needed though. There is something else to look at besides just longer sight radius, a longer slide and barrel will create less muzzle flip so you can get back on target for follow up shots faster.

One of my favorite carry rigs is a G17 that I have chopped to a G19 grip length which I use in conjunction with a VG2 from Raven Concealment Holsters - VanGuard Holster System - Raven Concealment Systems. I carry this IWB at 12:05.

If you're just wearing shorts and an untucked T shirt the chop helps quite a bit with printing, the 17 slide, b/c length, rides much better at this position.

Back to USPS - had any 35 yrd stages yet? How long is an isle inside a typical grocery store where you live? Home Depot? Can you make good hits with a G26? Sure. Can you make better hits faster with a 17? Most likely.
