Tripod advice needed.

I want to buy a tripod to shoot my 308 AR, a custom 300 win mag and my vudoo off of.
I may shoot as far as 1000 at times but usually under 600. Mostly target shooting but may use it for night hunting pigs. I won't be packing it more than 50 yards at most if I do hunt with it. I'll let the ranger pack it most of the way.

Looking at one from shadow tech llc and slik at the moment. Which way should I go ?

Would love to go RRS but that ain't in the budget.

Shadow tech pig0311 and the slik 700dx I think are basically the same thing. The shadow tech has a few extra tweaks though.

The way I have gone is a leofoto ln-404 and a rrs anvil 30. It's a big heavy tripod but I don't need to carry it. I will upgrade to a rrs competition tripod later. Im hoping they will make a 3 series version

I get the budget thing. But if you are considering a 055 clone like the two you mentioned you are going to need to really, really up your game to shoot a magnum well off of them; especially if you are in a hurry.

I would check out the bottom 2 videos in this thread showing the inherent instability of the 055 design. Yes, you can sling up, load hard and make good shots, but it is very slow in comparison and nowhere as precise as the new crop offered. Honestly, I would wait and save.

I checked it out, it looks good. Not a bad price for what you get. May spring for the RRS anvil 30 ball head to go with it if I go that route.

Been looking at RRS stuff this morning. Thanks Diver, you're going to make me spend more money.
I like their TVC-22I. For my style of shooting it looks like a good fit. Tripod and anvil 30 setup is $1,256.00
Thinking really hard about it. I like the inverted legs.

Then along comes wjm308 with the PVA-40 setup. It looks like a good compromise. Decisions decisions.

I have the PVA-40 w/ a RRS TA-3 leveling base. It works very well for me

Another recommendation for the TA-3 leveling base. Greatly lowers your center of gravity to alleviate any "floppiness" on top of the tripod. You are limited to 30 degrees of total leveling, however. Anything more than that, and you will have to adjust the legs to compensate. I've never found a situation that necessitated more than 30 degrees, but YMMV.

I should also mention the 406bullets claw feet are for RRS but work on the PVA-40 as they both have the same thread pattern. Also, it appears 406 bullets has changed their URL they are now Old Balls Inc -
