I'm looking at having my Tikka T3 rebarrelled. My local gunsmith does not like to work with metric threads, so right now it's looking like my options are BlackOps Precision or MT Guns. MT Guns uses Tru-Flite barrels. As I understand, they aren't very popular in the U.S., and I have not been able to find much info on them. Then again, Tikka's are pretty much the same way and I love them.

Does anyone have any firsthand (or even secondhand) experience with Tru-Flite barrels? Here's some info on them from MT Guns' website:

Re: Tru-Flite barrels

A lot of guys use them over here and I've not heard any but positive reviews. Friend of mine has a 6.5 x 284 F-class rifle with one on and its a tack driver.

Re: Tru-Flite barrels

I got in touch with MT Guns again and they can do a Bartlein barrel for just a little more. I think I'll just go that route. Thanks for the info. They seem to know their stuff, so I don't think they would use a barrel that wasn't up to par.

Re: Tru-Flite barrels

MT does good stuff. Sometimes a bit slow. I didn't know Bartlein did barrels. Thought they did actions only. A few of them are around here...great product. If their barrels are as good as the actions, you'll be in "tall cotton". As we used to say. Good luck.

I think you might have Bartlein Barrels confused with an action maker. As far as I know Bartlein Barrels does not make actions, only barrels, and great ones at that!

Re: Tru-Flite barrels

I use True Flight barrels for all my rifles and can say they shoot very well-I have shot 1/4 inch groups -they are made to shoot better than I can shoot !

Like all buttoned rifle barrels if the are made well they will shoot better than you ,the premium barrels are also hand lapped to take out any inperfections .
I dont believe any button ed barrels are any better than any other "if" made well and have a lapped finish .

Have confidence in this product made by Grant - shooter and engineer out of the Gisbourne region in New Zealand -a great guy to boot!!

My 1000 Post , quite nice to do that with a positive note about my own beautiful country

MT Guns quoted me $475 to install a Tru-Flite barrel or a Bartlein for $525. I didn't know Tikka's had standard threads. I may just have my local machinist buddy crank out a barrel for me. Either way, I'm excited! Thanks for all the help guys. I'll most likely just order a blank and go from there.

Re: Tru-Flite barrels

True-Flites are buttoned, as Ch'e says. They are generally excellent. The one I had recently on a 223 was an absolute hammer. Shot in the .1s in testing a couple of times.
