I use 210 VLD's in 30 cal and they like to be 0.008" off the lands
I use 80 VLD's in 223AI and they like to be 0.006" off the lands
I use 140 VLD's in 280AI and they like to be 0.006" off the lands
When I choose to use VLD's, I do the load development differently. I seat the bullet just kissing the lands and start finding where I will run into pressure, use the magneto speed here since I'm not looking for a group. Once I find pressure signs, I back off to where there was no sign of pressure and start shooting groups away from the lands in 0.001" increments. I usually find 2 or 3 different jump nodes and I alwasy choose the first one since I can then chase the throat if needed. Then, back to the powder charge variation...but about 95% of the time, that original charge weight is what it ends up being.
