Tube Guns?

    So I just picked up a used Mak tube gun on here chambered in 6x47 and I absolutely love the feel of it. It is a super solid platform. The damn thing is bolted on, glued in, and also has a recoil lug. Plus it is all metal so you don't have to worry about durability. It gives you a fully floating barrel and accepts aics mags.

    Heres what I don't understand, why don't I see more of them out their. especially since so many guys are already shooting ar 15 platform rifles. the buttstocks and grips are interchangeable so you could have the exact same setup as your ar. plus it is a super easy switch barrel setup, hell you could even buy a second bolt and have a 223 and 308 boltface all on the same setup. hell you could very easily have a short barrel for tactical matches and a long heavy one for f class/target/varminting. the mak tube gun cost alittle less than a aics 2.0 it you put a magpul prs fully adjustable buttstock on it and "to me" is every bit as comfortable and about the same weight.

    For the record I have no affilition with any of the companies, I think the concept is great I have only spoken of the mak because that is the one I have. I am sure that the eliseo chassis is also great and of course the tubb system is top notch but at over $4k I understand that is a limited market on the tubb.

    I am going to run mine through a couple tactical matches this year she if it field performs as well as it feels.


    I would just like peoples opinions on this subject positive or negative, I am very open minded when it comes to firearms.

    Go to prone and XTC highpower matches and you will see a lot of tubeguns. The numbers are steadily growing because:
    1. They are very ergonomic like an AR.
    2. They can acquired faster than custom stocks
    3. The tube surrounds the action and adds stiffness...can only help accuracy.
    4. They shoot lights out with less money invested than other customs.
    5. They look cool as sh..

    If you like ARs, then a tubegun is a no-brainer.

    I looked at both the Eliseo and the MAK and liked the MAK better. Looks better to me and I like the ability to swap buttstocks. Opinions vary.

    Have a MAK in the mail built by John Pierce in Lansing. Like you said, I outfitted it with two stocks: a heavy adjustable for matches and a light M16 A1 stock for hunting. Should be arriving any day now...

    PS. If you are looking for all around great people to work with, try Pierce engineering. I must have changed my order 50 times with them including deciding not to use his action. They never complained one bit and built the gun (with 5 barrels) in one week once everything arrived. John & Jim are great folks.

    of course you would say that since I got it from you. I just felt obligated to start a thread about it since I don't feel like it gets a fair chance in the tactical market. really other than a one piece action/stock what could be more rigid and reliable than this system.

    On the bright side toby i am pretty sure you can afford to buy another one.

    I'm leaning towards the Mak kit because it accepts ar15 stocks. The Eliseo tube gun only takes his proprietary stock
    Theres a write up on the new Magnum (300 win mag) Mak tube gun kit in the new ( march) Precision Shooting Magazine.

    Maybe I'm the only one, but the idea of having the action friggen glued to the stock, did not appeal me AT ALL.
    I went the Good Old bolted-in way, with my R5.

    Gluing the action is not mandatory. It's recommended if you don't use a recoil lug/disk, as I understand it, but not mandatory.

    Good snag Diggler44!!!

    Here's my tactical gun,your guns twin brother.6x47L and built by Nate too.I wish mine were a couple pounds lighter,other than that I'm sold on the idea.One day I might send it off and have the aluminum receiver fluted to shave some weight.

    Gary seems like a good person that has good customer service. I also like the tactical hanguard that Gary offers over the MAK, although I am thinking about getting a custom handguard, so mabey I should give the MAK another look.

    Because a Remington 700 with a Magpul UBR stock would look pretty dang awesome. Does the MAK have a mil-spec carbine extension tube?

    +1 Gary is a great guy and has great stuff. I run a pierce action in his chassis
    and I will never go back. The adjustability of the stock system simply works.
    I did not glue my action, because there is no need to. Very simple system to set up
    as the trigger guard, scope rail etc is all integral to the system...I am planning another build right now... just trying to decide on which cartridge to use.
