Shooters,

We need to decide what we are doing May 8th. Short course then long or? Please let me know. I will have everything ready for each. Also, want to try BLACK targets this match?

T-shirts are ordered and will be ready by the May 8th match. If you want a certain size or amount let me know. We will have s-m-l-xl-xxl
Also thinking of "Intimidator" shirts. Working on design.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

Ok,

If I can get someone to run the match on Sunday we will shoot the Intimidator. It is however Mothers Day and I was looking out for you guys. Lets give it another day and we will decide.
Short course Saturday... long on Sunday sounds like a plan if we can agree.

I'll be there Saturday W/two more. As for T-shirts are they short or long sleeve and do you want orders by this thread or PM. Also what about window decals, I want one.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

I'm for double short course or double Intimidator on Saturday. Or short course then Intimidator after.

Sunday is out for me.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

Is there a trick to using MapQuest and the address on the web site?
I'm not having much luck with a map and my GPS can't find it. Thanks.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

What GPS are you using my Garmin took me there just fine.
Maybe it would be easier if your just tell us where your coming from and we will help guide you.
When do you plan on coming down?

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

Scott,
If you are having trouble finding range, find Coshocton first.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Plainf...mp;geocode=CITY

The above link is about 18 min east of Coshocton, and 5 min from range.
If ya have more ?'s just mail me.

Endurance on Sunday?
Up to Tom and you guy's.
Slip off to shoot on Mother's day.
Shoot in the morn, and have a tick check before taking her out to dinner?
Or come down and shoot in the afternoon.
If you decide endurance, we will go up the hill @ 8:30 in the morning.
Otherwise 10:00.

Do I need to have coffee ready?

Glen

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

What time do I need to be there in the morning? Im in southern Indiana and will come if I'm not working. How many rounds will be needed? Tom I'll take a shirt in the size of FATASS.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

Posted this on the May schedule page, but figured it might be better here: I need a pardner for the long (which I have not shot before). Anyone else going solo on Sunday?

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

Breeze and TCA,
Thanks.
I didn't see a response to the time? Please advise.
Map to location.... my Garmin has old software. I'll be coming down I-77. I can get to Coshocton.
What happens if a newbie shows up and needs a partner and help with a range card?
This is a little intimidating. I am trying to get up the nerve to try it. Be gentle.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

No need to worry. Plenty of help and plenty of good guys to do so. Start time is 10:00 am but be here by 9:00 am to register.
Or time for target engagement is 8 minutes if that's what you meant. We will find you a team mate.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

If you still need help with directions take 541 east out of Coshocton.
Go through Plainfield.
Stay on 541 at the 93 split.
turn right at the top of the hill.(twp 118)
range is about a mile or so on the left.
If you look, you can see the 600 and 1000 yard berms.
See you there.

Is anyone else concerned about the targets being the same color as our reticles? It hard enough to see them when they are grey after a couple hits.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

What kind of targets/silhouettes/steel/ are at TVP? Also what are there dimensions? I'm going to buy a few pages for my data book and wanted to buy the ones that TVP offered, as I may start visiting. If anyone has any dope they are willing to share, to get me close, I'd appreciate it. 175SMK 26" 1:12 Does the range have weather conditions, or is a Kestrel needed? What's the known static weather variables for the range? Altitude etc...

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

If you're trying to make them so you can see the targets then some areas do better with black and some better with white and still others orange shows up best depending on what is behind or above it. On brown grass black shows up nice, in shade or deep green grass white looks good. But, depending on how the light hits them any of them can hide.

We've shot metallic silhouette at black steel animal shaped targets for years and usually they show up well and I've not found it difficult to see the crosshairs on them. Usually I check the part that sticks out past the target and use them as the guides to center it up or get my slight hold up or hold off. OOPS, I forgot you all crank that in.

Have to experiment to see what works best for a location. I think his matches are very challenging with the varying distances and having the wind to figure out. I've never liked to hunt for a target, it's hard enough for me to hit them when I can see them without guessing where they are.

Have fun, hope everyone cleans the match and shares in that $5000 reward. I'll get back out there again just not sure when but would like to try both matches.

All I can say is nope,no concerns at all. Black targets would be better than the paint color I was thinking of painting-Arevoe Lt.Green. or a dead grass tan.

What is not understood is Thunder Valley was a 1000 yard Benchrest club and only that. I talked with Tom Sarver about getting steel targets out there to shoot. I volunteered the steel and the labor to build these targets. I was tired of sitting on my ass to shoot and my rifles were not competitive enough to shoot with the Benchrest crowd. I wanted to learn more of the range myself. All I could see was the land and the opportunity to shoot more and learn more about my rifles. I had also learned more about myself too. I found my own strengths and weekness. I still consider myself lucky to get the steel out there in the first place. No matter what the color was.

Topstrap-

When the original targets were in place, they were red oxide primer. Thats tough to see in the grass. The idea behind that was to locate the target. If one had to try,so what, try harder. At the end of the day they learned something. Believe me I know. To this day,I have not seen an albino groundhog. Doubt if I ever will either.

At one point,we had to use the reticles in our scopes. No lasers were allowed. That became a a chore for some. The distances were told after that. It just started taking a long time. I left town for work, came back, went to a shoot. Everything changed. When I came back the matches were in a different format. They were close but we had teams,8 minute time limits, bonus points, laser range finders, white targets. I know this moved the match along faster. People were happier. I think.

I hope to win $5000.00 myself. I will keep some and donate the rest to people that need it more than I do.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

So what color do you want them? And a day before the match this is brought up again. If anyone is concerned about the targets being black then you've obviously have never shot at a black target. In case anyone forgot. WE ARE LOOKING THROUGH 20 PLUS POWER SCOPES. I've shot at targets paper and steel and fur/flesh that was black and I never had a problem seeing the target because my crosshair is black...with a straight 10x for 20 years. Nor is white hard to see or grey. Again we are not using iron sights we are using high powered clear optics. If anyone has a problem seeing the white steel targets AFTER they turn slightly grey then your not looking through your scope. If you are looking thru your scope and still can't see the whiteish/grey targets then you need a NightForce or new glasses. I'm sorry guys but this so called difficulty in seeing the targets is TOTAL BS in my opinion.
I've never ever once had a problem seeing the targets white grey or black or rust brown at any distance especially if I knew where they were looking thru a scope. We will vote on this this weekend and see what everyone wants. I will paint some white and some black to see which is best for YOU...the shooters. If you go online and look at steel targets they are mostly white...or black. Both work great when looking thru a scope. What color is Rayners targets?

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

I remember when there were 2 targets at the mile, one white and one black. We shoot that target from 1,000 and 570 or ???? I could typically see the black one better through a straight 10x than the white. Paint them skybluepink if you want .... as long as it isn't raining I'll be happy. I'm tired of rainy days.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

KQguy-

No need to thank me. Tom Sarver designed it. I thank Tom Sarver. I was being selfish for myself. I'll admit that. I was dumping hard earned money into decent rifles just to shoot 100 yards. I felt I needed to learn more. Eight years later I still think that today. My scores prove that. I'm realizing I need to learn wind and I need to pay close attention to detail. I can do the last part with my job easily. I need to do it more in something I enjoy as a hobby.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

Well it was another great day at Thunder Valley.
Freshly mowed shooting positions and target areas with fresh painted targets.
If you let the weather keep you home you missed a great day to learn to read wind.

Re: TVP Steel Shoot May 8th

Congrats to Glen, good shooting. Had a really good time today despite my "goose eggs", thanks a lot guys for pointing those out on the score sheet...lol. The wind was a challenge to say the least.

Hey Wayde, why didn't you post the other "action shots" from the day??? hehe
