I guess the big news was that Randy Couture (lost and) announced he's retiring. I personally count that a good thing because he's been fighting on pure pride for the last couple of years. Since the Coleman fight (the two of them were 91 years old!!), it's been obvious he still might win the odd fight but he's a pale shadow of the champion he once was. At least he didn't have to get KTFO'ed as many times as Chuck Liddell before he got the message.

The bookies had both Aldo and GSP 5-to-1 favorites so no big surprises there. Except that Hominick was such a gamer! I can't believe he got brutalized for four rounds, then posed a threat to win in the fifth.

The gate was $12 million. Dana White is a genius.

UFC 130 has some interesting matchups. I'm especially keen to see frank Mir against Roy Nelson. Stefan Struve (6'11") will be fighting (6'7") Travis Browne. If anybody but John McCarthy (6'4") referees that fight, it'll look like Mickey Rooney reffing an NBA game.

Pitifully, thats how. That was the most boring fight of the night. I cant figure out how both of them got the face damage they did. Couple of good shots but thats it. Shields might have some wicked jujitsu (which we never saw) but his stand-up sucks.

On a good note, Machida's KO of Randy was a thing of beauty!

Also, did you see that spinning backfist KO on the prelim match!!?? Holy Crap!!

Only one judge even gave GSP all five rounds. The other two both gave two rounds to Shields. As seems to have become his habit, GSP didn't fight to win, he fought not to lose. And Dana seems okay with that.

The GSP fight was such a snooze-fest, seriously. I nodded off more than once. It was THAT boring.

I couldn't believe Machida dropped Couture like a sack of potatoes.

Re: UFC 129 (w/spoilers)

GSP was doing fine up until he got a poke in his left eye & literally couldn't see out of it. Which was obvious for rounds 4 & 5. Those were the only rounds that Shield made an impact on GSP.....

His fights may be boring, but he sticks with a game plan & so far it's got him like 9 straight wins with 6 of them being title defenses....he's doing alright...

Yeah, he's doing alright in those tight red shorts...

I get the feeling Doc would like a shot at the title...

Completely agree. He never gets sidetracked by emotion or a bad position. He also seems to take every fight seriously and taken the loss to Serra to heart.
