My latest can was freed from jail a few days ago, so I figure I need to get back in line. I have a 30cal SAS resistor, Griffin Recce 5 and a Mask. For those who own them is there a big difference between a 30 and a 6.5 can?? A few months back tbac posted results between the two. At the muzzle there doesn't seem to be much of a difference but I have never heard one in person. Also a little unsure between the 7 or 9. Leaning toward the 7. I know the 30 is more versatile but I hate to give up to much suppression since I am considering a 7 but he 9 numbers look good. Just seems like a 9 would be to much on a hunting rifle. Confused!!

5’’ 30 145.5 , 149.25 , 147.25 , 148.5 , 150 Avg- 148.1
5” 6.5 144.5 , 141.5 , 145.5 , 146.25 , 145 Avg- 144.5

7” 30 142.5 , 140 , 142 , 141 , 141 Avg- 141.3
7” 6.5 143.5 , 137 , 139 , 140 , 141.5 Avg- 140.2

9” 30 134 , 135.5 , 137 , 134.25 , 137 Avg- 135.5
9” 6.5 140 , 138 , 133.5 , 135 , 133 , Avg- 135.9

I love your get back in line logic... haha. But I am assuming you are getting the numbers based on their videos right?

Being the can aficionado you are, I'm sure you understand, but I just want to document for other shooters that you have to take any of the numbers with a grain of salt because it's dependent upon caliber, ammunition, environmental condition, wind to name a few instead of just the suppressor / aperture itself. In this case scenario, I would go by the info on the website where they give you an average range of decibels, and then state that the 6.5 caliber specific cans are 2-3 db quieter.

So real world, is there a difference? IMO yeah. Here was my decision tree/logic:

*First TBAC has made all of our suppressor buying easy, as they are the defacto standard in precision rifles. So you couldn't really make a wrong choice out of all of them. (Go with the compact brake attachment version if you were wondering too- this also opens you up to area 419 inter swapability if you wanted.)

Now that you know you're going TBAC, my decision tree was this:

1. What is the main reasons why I am going to run this can?
- to shoot w/ no ears
- much easier to hear impacts
- slight help w/ recoil.
- personally will help balance my rifle systems
*So based on the hearing safe requirement alone, I don't have a need for a 5" can despite being intrigued by them.

2. What caliber will I shoot?
- 100% steel/ target
- I personally will never run anything over 6.5.

3. What can then?
- Well I bought them both- an Ultra 9 and a 7 in 6.5

Sure there is a difference, and I like them both. The 7 is right there for hearing safe for me, and the 9 is perfectly fine. The 7 is just a bit more maneuverable to me. I like it's general purpose the most (in my opinion)- It does it all very well. - This would be my one can.

But that's why were Merrrcans - buy em all!

What is the purpose for the suppressor you're thinking of? If it's hunting as you mentioned, what type of hunting in what terrain? If it's treestand hunting you'd be fine with an Ultra-9 but if you're going to be moving around in thick brush, that's another thing.

Typically we see more of a difference between the 6.5 and 30 cal versions than this video shows. A 7" 6.5 should give about the same performance as a 9" 30 cal on a 6.5. When I get a video day I show the video even when the numbers aren't the best we've seen or even a little high. We don't like to sugar coat things only showing the "best of" video clips we collect .

Would a 338 Ultra suppress better than an Ultra-9 in something like a 7mm RM? I know the hole is bigger in the 338 Ultra but it also has a larger diameter so I'm not sure which would perform better.
