I know the AT system was just announced, and other than it replaces the AW let's just say thats about all I know about it :)

Has anyone seen specifics of the barrel change system? Will XYZ custom shop be able to make me a barrel say in 260 or a shorty 308. Or will these be a proposition from AI only? Any approximate guess on 308 sized barrel costs?

Thanks guys

I think it was something like $700+ per barrel. With the cost of a Krieger or Bartlein, plus ream, plus gunsmithing, plus shipping, I would just buy from AI unless their barrel twists weren't what I wanted. In that case, any gunsmith should be able to cut a couple barrels for you.

You can order or buy barrels now if you want. They are the same as AW and AX barrels. They are available from any gunsmith who was cutting them before the new models. The barrel design did not change from the AW to the AT,only the way it is torqued down changed.

I didn't see anything in there that says someone like Short Action Customs couldn't replicate it and make you whatever you want. Similar with when the DTA's first hit the scene, nobody was offering barrels for their stuff and Mark started producing them for customers.

All above makes sense. I just wasn't sure how the barrel change system works. For all I know there is a custom machined super expensive collet that no one would bother trying to copy. If it's just timed threads or some other way of headspacing then I imagine aftermarket options.
