So I have been looking at IR laser/Illuminators with a slaved visible laser (preferably green). The DBAL-D2 is tops on the list and just noticed the Wilcox ES Lite (wondering if the visible laser is red or green on that one?)

I just found a unit I cannot ID for sale somewhat locally. Owner claims it is an Insight Peq-12 or with a civ designation of LA-12PM. It has a green visible laser and the housing has the footprint to mount an RMR. Since he is local and I can trade rather than pay cash for it- definitely would be interested but I cannot find a damned thing on this unit. Any ideas?

I saw a bunch of shit on Ebay being sold for other than what it is. First off, I don't think there is such a thing as an AN/PEQ-12. Not a weapon mounted aiming laser anyway, and especially one only in color (unless it's a training model). Did you call Insight and ask them if they sell a PEQ-12? If they did, run the SN through them to see what they did with it.

Any military stuff that you think may be suspicious or stolen military gear, you need to run through CID, NCIS and/or MPI. Calling local police willing to do checks is nice too, as is calling the FBI. DO NOT buy suspicious gear without doing all of this first.

But I've got a suspicion it's either a knock off or mislabeled item. Or a Chinese item. Be damn careful.

Or is it this, the LA-12p? LA-12/P That's a dazzler, just so you know. A flashing disorientation laser, and I think BE Meyers, of all places, really is gonna make a civilian version, along with a civilian LED IR illuminator (so they told me). But the LA-12p is a 3b laser, just like the PEQ-2's and PEQ-15's and IZLIDs. Still restricted.

And since it's restricted, it's highly recommended you jump through all the hoops to find out if the military or some government agency is looking for it. Only way to know is to call 'em and ask. May have to call around or call a few people, some tend to help while others come up with excuses for why they don't have to help.

Usefulness? I suppose if you don't mind giving away your position, and if your aim is to make 'em stop from a distance using dazzling light, then go for it. Might be a good item to have if you have lots of land and problems with trespassers, since it's also a hand held unit. Short of that, I don't know what you'd do with it.

Wow- definitely not how this thing is being advertised but I believe you did ID it correctly by the pictures. Thanks for the help with that. Its definitely of no use to me for night hunting. Guy selling it had said he had been using it hog hunting. Not even sure how that would work. Guess if I ever feel the need to put on a bitchin’ Pink Floyd laser show in the backyard though- this would be just the ticket.

The isn't clear enough to make it out, but it looks like it has a f(x) switch with an IR setting. If it doesn't, I don't know what the other 3 positions would be. However, strykervet's advice is spot on, as usual. If you can check it out in person, I would for sure. Price would also go a long ways in determining if I was going to be the new owner. I also wouldn't post pictures of it on the internet after I bought it....just sayin.
