3500 cars burn at Florida airport. At least it will give the autoworkers something to do when they get back to work.

A fire at a Florida airport destroyed more than 3500 rental cars

Fire near airport burns over 3,500 rental cars Melinda Avni, Mitigation Specialist for Florida Forestry Service of Caloosahatchee, said authorities were called to put out the fire around 5 p.m. Friday, when there were about 20 vehicles involved. ... The fire sent plumes of smoke into the air

Brings a whole new meaning to the term
"Basement savers" no disrespect to any firefighters here or otherwise.
Guessing there's a little more to the story than was reported?

    No way.
That isn't far from my house.
It was pretty ugly as the parking lot will need repaved and the building will need redone.

My first post was intended to be about the rental agency. I just have a suspicious mind, I guess. But the first post with 3500 cars burning made me think about the cost of having that many unrented vehicles sitting around and the lost income because of reduced travel.

Apparently a few other posters think along the same lines!

The fire was in a combined storage area where ALL the rental companies were storing inventory overflow.
For the vehicles in use they are parked mostly under roof, about 1,500 vehicles.
This same method of temporary storage is used nation wide.
It's normal to have 8k-10k rental cars around Southern Florida.
You have to understand, its part of their strategic staging program.
We constantly have large natural disasters that happen down here along with our tourism industry.
