I just got a six year old Remington 700 ADL in very good used condition. Want to upgrade it for better accuracy. Want to go with a stock that could be used for either hunting or tactical - no thumbholes, etc. Have purchased BDL bottom metal and looking for a stock with pillar bedding that I can glass bed the recoil lug, etc. on and float most of the barrel. Synthetic or laminate OK, but on a budget. Since I have the stock ADL barrel contour, can I use a varmint contour stock without it looking ridiculous? Can anyone point to a reference source that documents the 700 barrel contours? Suggestions, offers welcome on which stock to get. Thanks.

Re: Upgrading a Rem 700 ADL

Is it long action or short action? And the stock depends on how much you are wanting to spend. You could go with Bell and Carlson on the low end of things, or you could jump up into a Manners or McMillan, both of these will have wait times invovled if you dont find one on here that you want. And the stock barrel channel will only look as ridiculous as you make it out to be in your mind
