I just started experimenting with 155 grain bullets (SMK palmas) in my .308. I was wondering where you have found the max load to be with these bullets with Varget.

I found a good node at around 45.5 grains, but I don't get the velocity I want as I'm trying to make a load for beyond 1000. Most of my manuals say 47 is the max load, but the groups open up substantially at that load. I have one manual with a max load of 48 grains.

I've got a hunch that 48 grains will be in the next node, but I'm wondering if it's worth pushing this hard.

The 'upper node', so to speak, is up around 3125-3150fps.

Yes its friggin' hot. 47+ (emphasis on the '+') gn of Varget and a loooong barrel.

Most people (including me) find that the 'normal' 2950-3000fps node works *just* fine.

Re: upper node for 155 grainers with Varget

I use a 47.8 gr Varget in Win cases pushing 155 Scenars at 2925-2950 fps from a 24" tube. (47.4-5 for Lapua cases). 1000 yards at 31.2 MoA

Caution this load is right at the edge of sane pressures. And by that I mean I have a set of these Win cases that have been reloaded 29 times and most of them are still in good shape; 46 out of 50.

What length barrel TRG22? I am assuming 20"?

My rifle, it depended on the brass. Nosler was 47.1gr and Lapua was 46.8gr. Any hotter, it would start to string vertically.

the 155's pushed hard favor an 11.27 twist to stay grouped,,,,however at distance with any sort of a tail wind goofs on left'right accuracy.....not enough ass behind these boolits

Barrel stock 26". I was shooting for 2900 FPS and accurate, I got it at 46.8 and stopped. Vertical is super as is SD.

Re: upper node for 155 grainers with Varget

Was it 48.6 or 46.8? 48.6 would be one hell of a load. I haven't heard of too many people running them that hot.

My 18" TRG would push the 155s 2740fps with the 46.8gr load. So about 20FPS for every inch chopped off. I can live with that.
