I ordered a new vortex viper for my AR a couple weeks ago... I take it to the range hoping I hadn't been duped into buying sub par glass on a bargain...

I shot my leupold mark 4 outfitted rifle first... then I shot my AR with the vortex... well, I'll be damned if the vortex didn't seem brighter... first I think... this is bullshit, the mark 4 cost over 2x what this thing did... back and forth over and over, I'm pretty sure the vortex is brighter than the mark 4.... DAMN... now I feel like a tool for buying a scope that was $700 more, and it's not as bright... not to mention the parallax on the mark 4 is a pain in the ass to settle in.

anyone want to buy a leupold?

I love my Vortex binos -- have not heard of the retitled version, VERY interested. Which model is that? (looked through their website and it wan't apparent).

Now if we can get them to make a mil-based reticle FFP spotter to compete with the Bushnell

Re: Upset with vortex viper performance

leupold is not synonymous with excellent glass, so i'm not surprised.

The vortex stuff is quite nice for the price, as are the falcons.

At the price point, one can do soooo much better than leupolds. live and learn, I have.

Re: Upset with vortex viper performance

Leupold was the pinnacle of tactical rifle scopes.....in 1989. Not much has been improved over the last 20 years, except the prices have gotten higher; and therein lies the problem with Leupold.

Great Customer service, Great Custom shop, and operational features that were the cutting edge 20 years ago.

Wish they would get a clue. Used to love their stuff. But the world has moved on, and Leupold has stood rigidly still.

I'm going to find out how good their customer service is on monday when I call them and tell them a scope that retails for under $500 has better optical quality than their top model...

maybe they'll send me a free sticker..

Dosen't matter. Go into any average gun store or talk to someone "not in the know" and they will swear Leupold is the best scope on the planet.

Vortex are a straight up impressive company. Their value proposition is amongst the best.

I love my Vipers Binos.
