I don't post much in this section but, I had an experience I feel like I need to put here.
Ok, Robbert over at RWS had an SN-9 with an 80mm objective on consignment... clearly a 5500.00 scope... Rob had it for 3600 bucks looking like new so, I popped for it.
So, even before I got this scope I knew there may be an issue in mounting to the rifle since it has external turrets and it's frankly huge for ELR only. You have to have 7.5" between the mounts so that makes my rail requirements at 11"...
Of course I didn't have one on my rifle.
So, I called and talked to Arnold at USO and he spent a long time with me trying to figure out the action specs for stiller so they could make one and send it to me... he mentioned that they used to have a riser that they made that would just bolt on to my rail to bring it to where it needed to be. He was also the one that explained all the scope specs, how to set it up and all the details of every question I had about one.
So, I get online and find one online ( Arnold told me they didn't have one, I told him I'd try to find one and call him back ).. I call the online (not a uso guy ) guy to make sure it's the exact part I need... he sends another part that he ordered from uso, after talking to USO and ordering the wrong part from them, and getting it all wrong.
So, I call USO... I explain my whole situation ( since online guy could barely speak english and referred me to uso )... crap... I think it was Angie that I talked to for a long time... she was SO nice... she was searching the back parts rooms with me on the phone... she found part of one... She said she'd call me back Monday... she did call me back... she said they'd make the other part and even though I told her my gunsmith was going to make one she said, let's see how it goes, they'd make the other part anyway.
I didn't even buy this scope from them... their customer service IMHO, is about the best I've ever seen... Arnold was almost sick to his stomach because he didn't find the part... I offered to go and try to find one and call him back.
So, she calls me back a couple of hours ago and told me ( less than a week later ), the other part is now made and it's out to be parkerized.
In the mean time, my gunsmith is making one from scratch but, that's not the point. I'm not going to get a refund on the part because honestly, they kicked ass to support me. Hell, I want the part as a conversation piece now and, if one mount doesn't work then the other will.
If that isn't worth 200.00 then, I don't know what is and, as long as they are in business and they have folks like that, they'll always get my business.
Hell, I was planning on getting this scope anyway... this one popped up with all the options exactly like I wanted and it was basically new except it was 2k less money that somebody wanted to get off of desperately for some reason I don't know.
EDIT: After looking in here for just about the first time, I can tell this is not an uncommon experience... I just looked at a couple of threads at the top and see USO is well represented here.... as they should be but, it's nice to know... and, I think her name was Angie.... I'll find out and make sure. The SN-9 isn't something folks need something for every day I'm quite sure and, they came through for me with flying colors so, I just want to make sure folks know that they do go over the top.
