Can someone tell me if US Optics offers a scope in the first focal plane? I love the fact they have Horus reticles available, but want it in the first focal plane. Also, I am torn between US Optics and Nightforce. Who is the better choice? I am looking for durability, glass quality, warranties. Thanks a lot.

Re: US Optics

Good to know. I want a reticle I can use at any magnification for ranging, hold over, etc. Now all that's left is a comparison between them and NF. Was originally going to go with NF, but right now they arent offering Horus reticles, until the military contracts have been fulfilled. I talked to them on the phone yesterday, and they said that they may introduce the Horus reticles to the civilian market in Jan. My rifle will be done by April (waiting on Krieger to make the barrel for me), so I have some time to obsess over who to go with. Input between the two is greatly appreciated though. I like the fact NF has lifetime warranty, great glass, and combat proven scopes. I dont know much about US Optics being that I cant really see the whole website due to the fact that internet over here (I am deployed currently) sucks major ass. All input on glass quality, reliability, durability, customer service, is really helpfull. Thanks in advance to everyone for your help.

Re: US Optics

I have used a number of NightForce scopes, and have had excellent results with them. I have looked through a few USOs, and, though the glass appears perhaps marginally better than the NightForces I have used, I like the reticles and reliability of the NightForce scopes.

I have also had a fair amount of experience with the Horus reticles, in Schmidt & Bender scopes. The Horus reticles work as advertised, but I have found that they are almost impossible to see in low light conditions in which I can still clearly see the reticles of other non-illuminated scopes, because of the very thin lines in the reticle. I have pretty much stopped using Horus reticles, for that reason. The thin lines do make for very precise aiming when there is sufficient light, so there is a trade-off.

Based on my experience, if all of your shooting will be in broad daylight, I suspect you will have no problem with the USO scope with a Horus reticle. If some of your shooting involves dim light, I would suggest that you use the NightForce.

Re: US Optics

well, the problemw ith ffp is that Nightforce only has one. Supposedly they're releasing more but no clue yet. If u want FFP with more mag, gonna have to go with US Optics.
Both are built like a brick and have excellent warranty. To be honest, they're the only two companies that I'm aware of that rarely have issues. Rarely.

Re: US Optics

Think most here would suggest skipping the horus reticle. In the long run you would be better served with a traditional mil based reticle and $800 more in ammo or a class.

Owned a few Night Force and a few more USO's as well as PR's. My personal pref is USO but to each his own. Nothing wrong with NF just prefer USO's. IMO USO knobs feel much more positive and I just plain dont like NF power adjustment being the entire occular assy.

USO customer service is why folks keep coming back to them. Never had any issues with mine in so far as defects but I have delt with them for user induced issues

If you are active duty USO will treat you right on pricing. Whatever you decide the best advice is to go through a hide vendor. Theres a dealer for just about any flavor you could want and they take care of the folks here very well. USO, Liberty Optics are at the top of my list but there are others here as well.

Re: US Optics

I prefer NF of the two. I just shot the FFP 3.5-15 with a H58 horus reticle in the international sniper competition. The crispness of the parallax adjustment was superb. I loved the scope. I do however hate their zero stop. USO on the other hand is not bad, but I really dislike their oversize turrets. Horusvision will have an awesome scope when they nail down their parralax adjustment. It's still just a little fuzzy, however we have shot IPSC size steel at a mile with our .308s with these scopes.

308's at a mile, huh?

I've got an SN-3 TPAL sitting next to an NXS here, I like them both. Both are great scopes, NXS has slightly better (to me) glass and I do prefer the clicks of the USO EREK knob over the NXS "Hi-Speed" (10 MIL) knobs. But then again, the USO was a bit more money.

Also, I don't see how the USO knobs are any more 'oversized' than the NF knobs. Windage knobs are about equal, and the USO elevation knob is lower profile than the NF elevation knob.

Re: US Optics

JJ, how did you like the H58 reticle. I was thinking of going with the H25. Havnt had any experience with the H58. I know its good for movers, but how is it with everything else. Can you tell me more about it?

Re: US Optics

shooting a mile is not hard to do, once your gun is zeroed and trued then you extrapolate your bc a couple of times past subsonic you can shoot out to a mile with 7.62x51. Elevation is there, just a matter of calling wind and not too much mirage. We use the horusvision atrag program. It pretty much takes all the hard work out of shooting. you build your gun. zero it, true it and you have a range card in less than a box of ammo.

I must say I would have to see that work

I dont understand how the program predicts what a bullet once it goes sub-sonic cause sub-sonic= unstable= does not follow any a predictable hyperbola

What are you zeroing at ? what is your bdc in moa from there?
