The Army Marksmanship Unit put up a Facebook page -- if you'd like to see what they do over the space of a year you can visit without being a member.

Many folks have absolutely no idea what the unit does except compete. It may come as a huge surprise to know they are tasked with training the rest of the Army to raise their local marksmanship skills and abilities and support Recruiting.

In a year they host lots of major matches at home. This is just a sampling:

The Fort Benning Post Combat Rifle and Pistol Matches
The All-Army Championships (Combat Rifle, Combat Pistol, and Long Range)
The Interservice Pistol Championships
The NCAA Collegiate Pistol Championships
USA Shooting Olympic Shooting Team Selections (rifle, pistol, skeet, and trap)
World Cup (international) North America Championships (shooters from around world come to the US)
The JROTC National Championships
The Fort Benning 3-Gun Championships

The UK Afghanistan contingent hosted their Skills At Arms Meeting. USAMU members swept the pistol individual and team match, the rifle individual and team match, the shoot off team match, as well as the overall individual and team champions. Re: USAMU -- Hosting Excellence

Don't forget the Small Arms Firing Schools at the National Matches, and their Squad Desinated Marksman Programs.

Also if you have questions from the Experts (and they are the experts) the CMP website has a ASK THE EXPERT section.

I started a sniper program for the Alaska National Guard (including guardsmen, regular army and civilian LE) after attending the USAMU Sniper School in 1978. It didnt end at their school, I found that I could always go to them for help if I had problems.

Yes sir, I'm a big fan of the Army Marksmanship Unit and their programs. I believe that that was the best thin President Ike did, in creating the AMU Program.

As a side note, we shot a 1000 yard team match at 29 Palms, where I scored for the AMU. As you might know, the scorer has to sit right next to the coach to compair scores. Sitting that close to the coach, you hear the wind calls and corrections. I sure picked up a lot of good experience scoring for such a high quality team.

Those boys are the E.F. Hutten of the Shooting world, when they speak, you listen.

Here's a link to pics from this last weeks USPSA 3 Gun Nationals.

There are several in there of Staff SGT Daniel Horner and I believe Pvt. Tyler Payne.

I have had the pleasure of shooting with many members of the AMU over the last few years. Max Michel, Travis Tomasie, Robbie Johnson, etc etc.

Not only do these guys perform, to a man they are some of the finest people you could ever meet. They absolutely deserve every bit of respect and admiration we can give them.
