I had the pleasure last Saturday, during the rifle phase of the SAFS, to be a line coach for two firing points. Some might not call spending 10 hours on the range in 92 degree heat, attempting to help 10 folks just starting their HP journey a pleasure, but, for sure, it was a joy.
My fellow SDM instructors, some I had not served with before, were, it appeared, in spite of the heat, dedicated to getting all of their shooters off to a good start. The next day coaches and students appeared for the M16 EIC Match at their previous days firing points, where coaches now served as score keepers, getting to see how their newly trained shooters would apply their shooting knowledge, perhaps, to earn 4 leg points.
It's a whole lot of fun you should mark on your calendar for next year. Imagine, for just $45.00 you get: training from the USAMU, issued ammo and match grade service rifle, military and SDM coaches, t-shirt marked USAMU SAFS, certificate of training, and the opportunity to earn 4 leg points toward Distinguished Rifleman award. What training could be better than that.
