Any good website for used scopes out there? If the scope was a top end brand with a lifetime warranty would you buy it?

Of course I know of e-bay and forum searches. I just thought there may be a site that made it easier to track down.

Re: used scopes for sale?

Just make sure the warranty is transferable, most of them as I understand it are not. If it's not then the warranty is only good for the original purchaser.

Now in some cases certain manufacturers, leupold and swarovski come to mind off the top of my head, do not have transferable warranties but are well known to extend warranty service without asking for proof of purchase. Others are not so nice and do require proof of purchase.

For the price of used optics it's often not nearly enough savings to justify the loss of the warranty.

Re: used scopes for sale?

Also since the warrantys are not transferable why do paople pay almost as much as a new one for a used scope. I know I do not buy used electronics, cameras or other delicate equipment because warrantys are not transferable on them. As far as Leupold goes the customer service sucks. I have a MK4 that got flooded in Hurricane Katrina but was not damaged other than having water in the scope after being underwater. Leupold would not repair it under warranty. I was the original buyer but I did not have a reciept or box for the scope any more. I had to pay to have it repaired. But get this I had a few tasco scopes on 22 rifles, a few Bushnell scopes and Nikon scopes that I sent in to get refurbished and Tasco either rebuilt them completely or sent me new scopes. Bushnell and Nikon also were great about repairing one of the scopes even though I told each company what had happened. Leupold was the only company that did not repair the scope for free. The bad part is I paid much more for the Leupold than any of the other scopes I owned. I refuse to buy from another Leupold scope as long as I live. I have never had a chance to try Nightforce or any of the other warranies yet. But ihad a friend with a millet that they would not repair under warranty. The windage inside the scope kept moving around like the gear was stripped in it or something. I know a lot of people may think it is funny but I have owned many tasco scopes and they have always worked well for me. I know my dad said he has used them, Weaver and redfield as long as he can remember and never had a problem out of any of them.

Now don't get me wrong I just bought a rifle with a SB PMII scope. I will get to check it out better at home. Whe optical quality, durability and general build are all over better. I also have NF scopes now and still have that MK4 that got flooded. The Tasco scopes are no where near the quality of these. If you have to depend on it every time like your life depended on it I would go with Nightforce. None of us use it for its intended purpose. If we do the someone else is paying for it. We get them for the cool factor usually. Sitting on a bench shooting and not throwing our rifles around getting them banged up. Hell I can't afford to bang up stuff I pay good money for. I am not saying I didn't take care of my stuff when I was working but I didn't care if it got scratched, covered in salt water and mud, I had stuff duct taped or written directly on some of my gear. I knew when I needed a new piece of equipment I would get it. I know I don't need a Nightforce but I like my toys. I am happy with my tasco world class mildot and Nikon mildot scopes. They do everything I need them to do on my 22 rifles and I have one on one of my 308 rifles. I have a SB, Leupold and NF on my fancy rifles just because they are cooler toys.

Re: used scopes for sale?

If you shoot you gun 3 or 4 times a yr Im sure a Tasco would suit you fine but if you shoot your weapon like the rest of us do on here your better off getting something with a back bone before you go shooting the glass out of a Tasco. By the way Im in total agreement with you on the Loopies. Not a fan. Try a Sightron.

It searches almost all forums. I have bought a few used scopes and have overall been happy but I am only going to buy new from now on.

I don't know what your needs are but for $600 the Super Sniper variable is supposed to be great and I just got my Super Sniper 10x HD and it is awesome for $800!! I am going to pick up either another 10x or variable to have around just in case I get another rifle. I will never buy another Leupold again.

Re: used scopes for sale?

Well here is the deal. I have a DPMS LR-308 with a Burris 14X ballistic plex scope. I have gotten into long range hunting with it and am now wanting to get into the turret scope system. My ballistic plex scope works great for what its meant to do, but precise long range shooting has its limits with it. I want to be able to dial in the exact MOA it needs.

That being said, I am in law school and have VERY limited funds. I have been impressed with the bang for buck that burris offers, but a 20-24 power turret scope is priced pretty darn high regardless. As far as I can tell, the lowest priced scope with decent quality is Millet's LRS turret. I would LOVE a nightforce, but I would probably have to sell both kidneys to afford it. So I am left with the question of...go with a cheapy and get what I pay for...go with a used one and take a chance...or stay with the burris ballistic plex until I am old and get a nightforce.

ha. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: used scopes for sale?

Texas Republic,

We have a large inventory of demos, refurbs, trade-ins, discontinued, etc. scopes at www.SampleList.com.

If you are ever in the Dallas area drop by and we can show you just about every brand out there in person.

We'll also gladly take your Burris in trade.

If you won't be in Dallas anytime soon we can do it all via the trade in form at www.SampleList.com or via e-mail. You can trade used for used or used for new.

Re: used scopes for sale?

I've always thought of used scopes like used electronics.

They MAY run just fine for a good long while, but.....

If you can find one under warranty, I'd say go for it.

1. They have very poor Q.C.

2. They are made in China.

3. They are the size and weight of a baseball bat.
