Call the post Provost Marshal and find out if the the post commander is a socialist or a defender of your FEDERAL constitutional rights. If you live on post in family housing CA shouldn't have and juridiction.

Re: USMC is moving me to CA what guns can i bring/hunt

Bolt action rifles are fine.
No 50BMG.
Shotgun should be fine.

I am not sure about the handguns, I heard a while back that one can move in with handguns that are not on our 'approved' list, but recently heard that all handguns coming in state had to be approved. Check CA DOJ, and/or talk with your employer.

We have quite a few shooters here in CA, so I doubt you will have a problem finding someone to shoot with. Personally I despise ranges, so I usually head out the to desert to do my shooting.

Switchblade thanks im looking into off base housing now.
Yea that's the reason i posted here, most of the guys on here are good people over all and figure they could point me to some good places to shoot.

Re: USMC is moving me to CA what guns can i bring/hunt

I am in the same boat (moving to CA soon), because I accepted a job offer down there (Silly Valley).
After some research (which, mind, could even be totally wrong

), I believe the only firearm I have to get rid of, is a DPMS Pather LR-308 (which is explicitly listed).
My other ARs and AKs are not listed, so I'd need to place an industrial order of BBs

Ammo, primers and powder (and firearms) will be personally driven down there with a UHAUL.
Handguns needs to be registered to the DOJ ($19 each, if I am not mistaken) within 60 days.
I might have to ping Calguns for a couple of extra questions, but the above is what I have in my check list.
Of course, I couldn't find trace of any long range rifle range close by (looking at the net), but that's a different problem.

Re: USMC is moving me to CA what guns can i bring/hunt

Oh, forgot, and get rid on any magazine with more than ten rounds (and buy ten rounders replacements) ... fun!

Re: USMC is moving me to CA what guns can i bring/hunt

I dunno if you need to get rid of the guns. It may be subject to their interpretations (your "NEED" for them) but you may be able to bring them in as long as you register them with the state. They may be able to decide you have no legit need for them and deny you but it may be worth a closer look.

Re: USMC is moving me to CA what guns can i bring/hunt

If it is an "on list" assault weapon you are not allowed to have it period. If it is built on an off list lower, you can have it, but then you get into flash hider, fixed magazine, pistol grip issues. You can have a detachable magazine of 10 rounds or less, but only if you get one of those weird stocks without a conspicuous pistol grip. Crazy laws. Bolt action rifles and many semi auto 22s are fine because the semi auto 22s have "normal" rifle stocks. Shotguns are ok. As stated before, all pistols must be registered within 60 days and you cannot bring Hi-Cap mags across the state line. Possession alone will get you in big trouble.

As to Immorteq's registration...unfortunately, once the grace period was over for registering assault weapons when the ban went into effect - any further weapons that fall outside the legal list are a no go, no matter if you WANT to register them or not...still can't have them.

Check w/ DFG. I am pretty sure you cannot hunt w/ ammo that contain lead. It was limited at first to the western part of state because of the endangered condor. I do not think it extended to the deserts or San Deigo area.

I hope you understand that you just gave me a gag reflex. GOD what is this country coming to? It's only a matter of time and the infection will spread everywhere. Hopefully Texas is immune to this strain of virus!

+1 on the reference to calguns. I don't know particularly what's required to bring the of roster handguns but I do know it's allowed so long as you fill out the appropriate forms within a grace period of moving here.

Off of the top of my head
Rifles
Bolt actions with removable magazines are fine but not semi-automatics. So you will need to get a bullet button to allow you to remove the magazine with a tool only.

Can't have a semi-automatic with a hi-capacity magazine(more than 10 rds.) even if its removable and even if its preban.

If ever your up in the bay area I would gladly be your shooting buddy. Hell, I'll even take you to hooters after the range on me.

I am sorry I can't be more specific about what you can and can't bring over. The laws here don't make any damn sense and lately Cali-gunowners have been using legal workarounds to get some of the guns they want so its really hard to explain.

But feel free to shoot me a PM with any particular questions or a list of what you have and I can try to find out what you can bring over or what you need to make it meet the retarded ass laws here.
