Buyers premiums aren't uncommon but if someone isn't paying attention it could be a big surprise. And even bigger if they collect sales tax.

I had a chance to get one of these with certificate in 2008... $10k. Only a 3k premium over a new one at the time. Passed.

there is one on gunbroker now for $40k... silly money.

Auction houses charge buyers AND sellers premiums. They typically add up to 30 percent or more.

Which is why big auction houses make a lot of money. Which can work for a seller if they really bring in the bucks... two frantic bidders, insane price. But for mundane items, it’s all just a waste of buyer and seller dollars.
