Utah school teachers line up ro concealed carry classes

We dont fuck around much around here. Utah is regularly listed as one of the best run states. We have some cultural issue but those issues kept the Californians from getting a toe hold here in the 1990's. They gave up and went on to Colorado. Getting crowded for sure but so far we have kept our values. SLC is the only liberal area.

Here in corpus christi they also did the same thing after the Florida incident. Free ccw course for the teachers...

Beautiful city Corpus Christi. I spent many years there, still know a few folks. Always a rush to come up over the Bay Bridge and see the city laid out in fornt of you. Padre Island has kind of gotten zonked with people though.

You really like Corpus Christi? Man I've hated it all the time I've lived here. I never found myself here haha. Seems too boring to me although I'm sure there's stuff to do.

That's awesome, how was the turnout?

Not sure how many attended. It was kind of the talk of the city for one day and became local news but I don't think they ever mentioned a headcount. If they did, I missed out on it lol...

ya, all good... but this can really backfire on 2A.. We need to spend the $$ to provide better training than a normal CC permit min. When I took mine next to a re-up couple, I was muzzled several times, as in the face, they could NOT hit all the rounds on the flipping paper 7yards in front of them, several hit my target.. They passed. If they ever discharge in public under stress.. the bad guy is not getting hit.

Now, I think we should all be able to carry - but we should be willing to help those that are willing to help our kids with training and a few extra $..

That's probably true. AFAIK, none of these school shooters have encountered any immediate resistance yet, so there hasn't really been any 'Oh shit, I'm about to get shot, let me grab this kid over here and use him as a shield' type shenanigans going on. I mean, maybe not air marshal level training, but if I was an armed teacher I'd definitely want to know I could place one over my son's shoulder with confidence, while getting shot at. Hell, I want to know that anyway, and I'm not even a teacher.

why do we need permission or a class to carry a gun, kind of defeats the 2a doesn't it.
Same reason you need to show proficiency to operate (I so love that word 'operate' its like 'operator' ) a motor vehicle. so you dont go out and kill someone because youre too goddamn in competent to drive...although thats the case about 30% of the time anyway. Hows that for a run on sentence?

Yeah, if you dont like to fish or arent in the Navy it can be pretty dull. Great Redfish though.

Corpus is were I got into shooting. Great shooting community with the south chapter of the Texas prc and the cc pistol and rifle club. Now that I'm stationed in oregon I realized how good of a community it was.

And less than an hour from Rifles Only in Kingsville..

Great shooting community??? Huh!!!
I know there is a club but you have to be a member in order to use their range. Or, somebody who is already a member can invite you. I moved to corpus not too long ago, I don't know anyone here lol.

I love fishing, but freshwater fishing. Although I won't lie, I do hit the salt every now and then but it's just not my thing...

Are you out at NAS just past the campus of A&M? I went to school there in '69-70 when it was UCC (University of Corpus Christi..oh the stories).

There are a cuple former members of the Hide that shoot with Prescision Rifles. Josh Ruby (aka Captain Kick Ass, and one of LL's favorite people) is in the Dallas group and Torfinn is in the Houston group. My last old friend just moved from Corpus up to Fredericksburg or Id hook you guys up. He loves gunz.

Get out to Padre Island. A beautiful place. If youve got 4 wd you can go for miles and not see anyone.

Concealed carry has been authorized on school grounds in Utah for over a decade, they are one of the very few that has had it right from the get-go in that regard. When I left the Corps and I moved back there in 2006, I met with the elementary school principal my son was attending and asked her about it, if there were actually teachers that carried. She wouldn't specifically confirm, but stated "Your son is VERY safe here." I lived across the street and never hesitated to keep my SIG on me when I walked my son to and from school or to meet for parent-teacher conferences.

As much as I agree with the lack of real defensive training of teachers being a serious gap that needs to be closed, the simple fact that it's approved is a significant deterrent. These maniacs that shoot up schools envision it being like a free-for-all for them with no resistance, and it has been proven time and time again as soon as they meet opposition they back down, showing that they really are just chickenshit. One armed citizen can easily thwart a shooter, even if they can't hit fuck all. If a kid thinks they'll possibly meet a gun at any corner, not just watching for the school resource officer to be off campus, which happens a lot and is easily identified by their D.A.R.E sticker emblazoned cruiser not being in the SRO parking spot, they'll more often than not think otherwise on exacting their fantasy killing spree.

Been over 2 decades I believe (time flies). The first couple years of CCW permits were a little contentious with the DWR, public schools and public colleges fighting. In the end the state legislature stomped them into the ground. Telling them who was in charge and where they get their funding from. U of U fought the hardest and at one time proposed that students could not carry but the general public visiting the campus could. They eventually lost also.

With that the school boards took a very strict line on CCW for teachers.

First you must understand Utah CCW law does not required you to carry concealed. It allows ANY weapon to be concealed but does not require it to be so.

The school boards see it a little different and require it to be concealed 100%. And that means. If anyone other than the carrier of the firearm becomes aware of the existence of the firearm it has now become "un-concealed" and termination may happened. This can happen even if the knowledge is verbal. Such as two teachers talking and one teacher feels uncomfortable and goes to the principal.

What this also means is that the principal is not allowed to ask who carries (even in private one on one). I feel that does not help as the principal has no idea who the "sheep dogs" are. I dont think the principal should be required to know. Just that I dont see the harm in it.

They want to keep it in pandora's box and not discuss the issues.

Get a hold of a guy by the name of Jacob Bynum at RO.
I'll bet he'll get you set up.

Just hope they take it seriously and get trained up more than a basic class. I'd carry but to make a difference you gotta be better than just a simple ccw class in a school.

Yes, no idea.. LOL posted this in the wrong thread anyway..

I also have no idea what your case is, but I am happy for you it is now resting

Fair enough, In a post I just made I talked about how many of us are stuck in the old way of doing things and that the anti-gun have embraced the new way (Facebook, twitter, Instagram.) better. You tube has a lot of pro-gun stuff on it (when they don't get censored).

Guilty-

We need younger guys and girls my son’s age (18) to take up the battle. The issue is the schools will threaten to expel them for Facebook and other social media.

I the thread I meant to post in, he would not support the walk out as he felt he and all his classmates manipulated. His teacher encouraged him to leave the classroom— really?

Again agreed - but it needs to be our youth too

There has to be a f'ing deterrent or it will continue. If there were armed guards standing outside, this shit would cease to exist.

I agree, great that teachers are carrying, but I don't think that stops it like an armed guard will.
