TO:
All those interested in long range tactical shooting matches in Utah.

NEXT MATCH:
Will be April 10, 2010. North Springs Shooting Range, Price, Utah. Sign in 8:30. Shooter meeting 9:00. Maximum 40 rounds. $5 to the range office. $5 or $10 to the ammo can. This will help buy paper and steel targets and related items we will be needing.

REORGANIZATION
Many people wanted to continue the matches. So we are reorganizing the way these matches happen. Got people to do most of the work. Much thanks to all those who offered to help, we will need it. Remember all those helping will be able to compete. Will still need a few people each match to help score and spot, it makes the match run a lot better and quicker.

2ND SATURDAY
The second Saturday of each month will be our day for matches at the North Springs Shooting Range.

EQUIPMENT
Will still be limited only by your need to move, required position and how fast you need to engage the target.

MORNING MAIN EVENT
Probably stay with a main event of practical rifle in the mornings. This can include anywhere from about 30 yards to 1000 yards. Semi autos are ok to shoot this main event. Working a bolt action as a single shot may sometimes be a disadvantage (on timed stages). Mostly prone and may or may not include other positions, different barricades, moving, turning, over the cliff edge and whatever else those guys can dream up. Most of the time you can switch rifles during the course of fire. Will not be able to if it stated that way on the match announcement.

SIDE MATCHES
Usually we'll have a semi auto side match, scored separately, in the afternoon. With once in a while a pistol or even a shotgun stage side match. We gotta use that shoot house one of these times.

UTAH STATE SNIPER SHOOT
Plan on a Utah State Sniper Shoot again this year, but looks like it will have to be in the fall. The dutch oven crew says they can do it then. We should get our reorganization of the matches down pretty good by then. I'm thinking, $50 includes dutch oven dinner, T-Shirt or hat, prizes and a hell of a course of fire. We'll see how much help we'll have, that will limit the number of shooters.

NOTE
One more note. Except for the Utah State Sniper Shoot, we can work with shooters that are first time competitors or just need a little help figuring out their dope, etc., etc, before and during the match.

WEBSITE
Something is wrong with the website. Don't know when I will be able to change it. Got to get my kid over here to see if he can figure it out. We'll just say we'll have shoots every 2nd Saturday of the month for the rest of the year, except December. Sign in will be 8:30, shooter meeting 9:00. Will still send out emails and post on Snipers Hide with details each month.

EMAIL LIST
If you want to be taken off the email list or put on it, just let me know.

Thanks, Clint

Re: Utah Shootouts - Practical Rifle - Apr. 10

There had been much confusion about Utah Shootouts schedule.

There will still be long range, practical, precision rifle match April 10, 2010. North Springs Shooting Range, Price, Utah.

Sign in 8:30, shooter mtg. 9:00 am. Will be done about 12:00 or 1:00. Bring about 40 rounds for this main event in the morning.

Bob won't tell me the unknown distances he has planned. Bring your lazer range finder. Maybe he'll let you use it, maybe he won't. Or maybe you won't have time.

For those not attending the NRA RSO class at 1:00, There will be a semi auto event (or you can use your bolt gun too) on the LE range for a couple of hours after the main event. Bring 25 rounds minimum for this.

Pay $5 to the range office when you sign in there.

You can donate $5 or what ever to the ammo can to help cover our costs for targets etc.

Thanks for a great time and thanks to the ones who took the time to put it on!

Bob.. Next time I will help you setup the unknown distance course

Good to shoot with you all.

Re: Utah Shootouts - Practical Rifle - Apr. 10

I know I had fun! I like the idea of fresh ideas's each month or so. Keeps us on our toes. Don't know if I'll ever run a bolt as fast as Clint. I have an idea.

What if everybody who shoots shares ideas on how to set up different courses of fire.

Like; on the UNK targets, allow two shots per target if needed with the 2nd shot, if needed getting 1/2 score.

Re: Utah Shootouts - Practical Rifle - Apr. 10

thanks guys i had a great time shooting with you today. i agree with what was said above and would like the opportunity in a future event with the ukd's to take a second or even third shot with point deductions. just my two cents.

Re: Utah Shootouts - Practical Rifle - Apr. 10

Had 16 shooters with one shooting two guns (2 shooter #'s).

Wind gusts up to 17 mph

Only 5 hit the 100 yd c/b (9/16" X 11/16" rectangle) with Robert clipping the center of the X.

The best 100 yd 3 shot groups were around 1/2". Over a inch got 0 points.

5 shooters cleaned the Israeli sniper 10 shot target.

Next the steel on the 600 yd range. 2,3,4,5 and 600 yd 18" targets. That got us warmed up. Then it was a timed 600 down to 200, 5 shot stage. All 5 hits were scored first from 100 pts for the fastest time (Eric) and 5pts less for each slower time. Then scored the shooters that got 4 hits with 5 less pts for each slower time. Then 3 hits etc.

Then came the Unknown. There were 4 - 18" steel some where on the 1000 yd range. I think the longest ranged almost 900 yards. Aaron was the only shooter to get all 4 hits.

Aaron also got top honors with the most points. But was closely followed by Robert and Eric.

By shooter # order, name and total points

1 Jeff W 206
2 Bob 55
3 Stan 198
4 Keven 198
5 Dale 206
6 Ethan 145
7 Jeff F 173
8 Cary 136
9 Aaron 265
10 Alan 154
11 Eric 258
12 Todd 189
13 Jeff W 75
14 Spencer 50
15 Robert 262
16 Cam 19
17 Clint 166

Should get detailed COF and all the scores for each target on the website soon.

Re: Utah Shootouts - Practical Rifle - Apr. 10

Got detailed scores on the website. www.utahshootouts.com

Brought back memories shooting some of those Idaho State Sniper Team Shoot targets. Ain't too many of us remember those. Thanks Robert.

And thanks to Bob for the long distance course. The unknown went better than I could have guessed. You may have noticed that a lot of shooters stayed after to re-shoot them after they knew the distances.

Re: Utah Shootouts - Practical Rifle - Apr. 10

Oh, and after the shoot, 4 (?) of us stayed after to attend and NRA Range Safety Officer course.

Not only did the wind gust upto 17 MPH but it kept switching back and forth between 8 and 4; made for some tough wind doping. Next month I won't extend my wind flag tripods up and I'll bring something heavy to hang on the tripod to keep them from being blown over.
