Hey guys?

Any idea where I might find where people would post their vacation rental properties that have ranges on them?

Ideal would be Pennsylvania but would also love to do some long range shooting out west.

Thank you!

Bob

I dunno about some folks but as a landlord, I would be very much adverse to renting any kind of property with a range. Even with various stuff worked into the lease, sounds to me like lawsuits waiting to happen. I don't think you're gonna find much.
Yes and I completely agree! I have found two on the rental apps but none in Pa. one of them was in Texas. Can’t remember where the other was.

Thanks!

The NRA Whittington Center in Raton NM has the finest range Ive been to and they have rental cabins and dorm style housing at very reasonable prices. You can also book guided hunts.

I've never been there, but planning a trip for the spring............

There are some nice rentals on the north side of Salida, CO. Beautiful views of the Collegiate peaks and the Arkansas river right there if you're into fishing/rafting. Tons of biking/hiking/ outdoor shit in general. Free range right across the highway has steel out to 800 or so. Its not private, so I don't if its the place to show up with an M60, but I don't remember seeing any rules that you can't. Probably be a good way to make it a private range for the day!! Bunch of pistol/22 ranges and a 4 thrower shotgun range. Hell of a place for free, self regulated. Best thing is mid day on a weekday its all yours. Place is dead during the week and only really busy on weekend leading up to rifle season. If you end up coming down here, hit me up. I mostly shoot on BLM but I end up there once or twice a year if we are on that side of town. Shot some clays there last week with a buddy that lives on that side of town, saturday afternoon, one guy at the rifle range and us.

The public lands out west are ruined by some shooters

they will blast an old TV, printer and washer

they leave all the stuff behind and all spent brass and shotgun hulls

This is true. We have a couple places around here that have been closed to target shooting because of such things. The area I shoot is sparkling, because I keep it that way. Anytime I see shit left shot up, shells, etc. I remove it. The BLM ranger knows I remove it and he appreciates it. I keep it cleaned up in hopes to keep it open to shooting and so we don't look like dirtbags. I can hear the shooting from my house. Anytime I hear a bunch of blasting in that direction I head up there next chance I get to check out the damage. Sometimes its a few plastic bottles sometimes its bad with printers etc. Most of the time if there is a mess. there is a bunch of fresh once fired brass for me. Got about 200 .223 and 100 9mm last week. I have taken it on as a project knowing its for my own good. I keep thinking about putting a game camera in the main offending area to see if its the same guys trashing it or not.

The camera is a great idea!!!! And maybe you could make a website up and post videos of dirtbags that trash the Land, kind of like they do with DWI lol! But seriously other people could do the same on the site and the word would get around and maybe stop the shit. Cameras probably wouldn’t last long.

Been to Whittington for a week with Frank and several others (2002, when I still had a fuly functional Cardio-Pulmonary system). If there's a better place for a vacation, I haven't found it.

One Caveat, I'd take my wife of 49+ years, but she can't get around so well anymore. Come to think of it, neither can I.

But it'd still be very hard to beat.

Greg

Aw, heck; its at 6300 to 8100ft, above my best-by altitude. But boy, can an ELD carry up there...

Can you give me a grid or google aerial of where the location of the range is?

The town looks nice.

Sorry to hear you’re not getting around too good! Do you still get out to enjoy some shooting?

No problem. The berms on the northwest side are the pistol/rimfire that fire east. The long one across is the rifle range. You can see the shade structure (with concrete benches, 10 or so) right above the degrees symbol in 38.39'49"N. The rifle range firing east goes from that shade structure damn near to the east edge of the circle i made. Target frames at 100 and 200, steel animals that go out quite a ways. Forget if its 800 or more. Just north of the rifle benches and harder to make out is the shotgun range that fires north. To the South is the county dump.

Sitting at the rifle benches and looking to the east at the far end of your view you are looking over the Browns Canyon National Monument. The newest NM in the US. Classic class 3 rafting.

We rented (airbnb I think) a pretty badass log home for a friends 50th about 10 minutes from the range to the west. It was on acreage, no idea how they'd feel about you shooting out there but it would technically be legal as it is unincorporated county and out of city limits.
