for $2kish or below whats best valued 308 semi? dpms? RRA? others?
was looking at DPMS G2, hunter/bull change teh stock+trigger etc? but since its new not sure how good it is.

For 2K you can do a lot better than DPMS or RRA... I know that doesn't really answer your question, but if you have 2K to spend it opens up some much nicer options.

What exactly are you looking to do with the rifle?

I hear about people getting good accuracy with DPMS & RRA, but I personally haven't been impressed with their 5.56 rifles. DPMS often has quality control and material issues that catch up to you over time, and RRA just tend to be pigs. I would build something if that's an option. There is an abundance of good barrels on the market now, and matched receiver sets are easy to find from CMT or Mega. Right there is half the rifle. Don't go nuts on a fancy rail, because you don't need it for a bench gun, splurge on a nice trigger, and scope out the EE on AR15.com for good deals on the rest of the parts. Buy what you can used, the rail and stock are perfect for a used purchase... You might end up spending a little more than 2k, but you won't be as disappointed down the road.

I have to agree with Birddog 100%. I also have a DPMS GII SASS and it's been flawless...AND accurate since day 1. The heavy fluted 18" barrel stands up well to repeated firing, keeping the groups consistent and without any wandering as the barrel gets hot. Shooting some low grade Wolf and Federal ammo it shoots just above 1 MOA and with 175gr SMK's loaded with 41gr Varget it shoots sub MOA. I'm a left handed shooter and I added an adjustable gas block to tune the ejection pattern so I don't' get hit by brass while keeping the recoil down. Otherwise it's never had a failure of any kind and operated very consistently. I'm am VERY pleased so far.
