Varget OCW with 168's in a .308

I get the best groups with 168 smk's over 45.5 grains of Varget. Curious what others have found the OCW to be with Varget and 168's.

I was getting excellent accuracy with 46 grains of varget. Then I got a new lot of varget and I was getting extractor marks. I was sad. But 44.5 grains has also worked extremely well too.

I also get good groups with 46.0 grains in both 168 and 175smk. No extractor marks, but it is not very hot here even in the summer.

I took apart some tap 168 once and it looked like 44 grains varget so I loaded some of that in LC brass with a 168 amax and it shot well enough.

I think 44 and 46 are most people's accuracy points.

You didn't say what distances you are shooting.

For 168 SMK's, there is no better powder charge than 42.0grs. of 4064 for 600 yards and under. Over 600, don't use the 168.

Over 600... use the 175 SMK's with Varget and at 1000 yards, the Berger 185 BTLR with Varget or Reloader 15.

Most commonly I shoot 600. I do take it out to 900 sometimes. At 1000 the bullets definately start to Yaw as my holes are no longer round. If I start going past 600 more often, I'll for sure switch to 175's.
