varmint upper

Re: varmint upper

I bought a DPMS 24" varmint upper for that very reason hopefully in the next year or so. I haven't put a lot of effort into it, but so far it likes about every load I've put through it.

Re: varmint upper

To stay under budget I'd suggest building your own. The thing to focus on is the barrel. Fortunately there's quite a few barrel options at pretty good prices, and I'd start with Rainier. You can also keep the cost down if you're transitioning your BCG from one upper to another, just watch that it still headspaces OK and you're fine.

Your budget isn't far off of what Scott at Specialized Dynamics could put together for you, and he is known to build some of the best varmint setups around. If you want a shooter, give him a call.

+1 for Scott
I just ordered a 6.8 upper from him a few weeks ago. He's a great guy to deal with. He replied to the millions of questions I had and from what I've seen so far, he's top notch. I'd definitely give him a call about an upper.
