Searched here and elsewhere, not much info. I was wondering how this not so expensive scope would be on a occasional use .223 varmint rifle.

Vector Optics Paladin's 4.5-14X44 FFP's

What say you?

Thanks for the info.

There are people on here who have earned that MOS....If you have not you earned that MOS you will quickly become persona non grata.

Re: Vector Optics question and opinions

I looked at the scope on the web, it looks exactly like the Barska model. I would not chance it. If you are not dead set on a FFP model, check out the Nikon Buckmaster series.
There is also the Mueller all purpose tactical (APT) that is getting very good reviews. I have several Muellers (not this model)and have been pleased, their customer service is excellent.
I also have a Millet TRS-1, I have had very good luck qith it, the glass is good, the clicks accurate and repeatable. I will warn you, other folks have not had the same success with it as I have, but Millet was bought out by Bushnell a while back and they seem to have the bugs worked out of the QC issues. Another low priced scope, albeit a bit more, that many people seem to really like is the Konus Pro tactical models, the only bust on them is the 1/8" clicks.

Thanks for the info, I thought the same thing while researching. Most of the lower end models go for between 60-$120, however this model seems to be a little higher in price, which could be good or bad? I found a few on e-bay from the seller for $329 buy it now: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vector-Optics-Paladi...=item1e5a1a5f4b

And the sellers ratings for the scopes as well as other items is 99.7 for almost 4400 items, so this scope has me a little intrigued, oh well I bought it, and will throw it on the .223 and see what happens. This might be a $175 gamble that I loose. I will report back my observations.

Well I received the scope, mounted it on the .223, I didn't care for the rings that were included so I bought a Burris style mount for it. I took the rifle to the range to sight in the new scope, I was pretty impressed that without bore sighting or anything, I was not far off on the first shot at 50yds, like 2" low and 2" left. I adjusted and got it to zero, clicks on this scope are a little stiff, which I like, no chance of movement, I also like the side focus feature. I moved the target out to 100yds and took a couple more shots, the wind really started blowing so I figured it was going to be tough to get it truly dialed in. I did get it to about 1.5" @100, however I am going to go back when the wind is calm and make sure its a go, over all I really like the Savage 12fv, and the Vector Scope, optics are clear, nice big dials for adjustment, for $175 I am impressed so far.

Thanks for your concern, however far from 16, and not living with mom, or in a basement. The way a few of you act on this site leads me to believe that some growing up does need to be done by a few. I have been shooting for over 35 years and need to prove nothing to anyone. I came across this site while researching guns, ammo, and scopes. I am not here to be yours or anyone else's "buddy". Just looking to learn a little more everyday and interested in new products. Hope you have a better tomorrow ...

So you feel the need to pretend to be a sniper? I agree I think someone does need to grow up and if you want to learn something let the people who have worked for their title keep it with the respect they have earned not what you take without cost or sacrifice.

You should have taken this recomendation seriously.
Not a single person on here is going to take you serious with that tag. You should simply change it for yourself, to better yourself from a lie. This is a serious shooting site that is not for the fake "Sniper" wanna bees.

Re: Vector Optics question and opinions

As far as the scope you have, I don't have any experience with it but I would say that you probably could've gotten a scope from a better company for about the same price or just a little more. The Vortex Cross Fire 6-24 mil dot is about 100 bucks and has gotten some really good reviews and you won't find a better company to deal with! Your scope may work fine for as long as you need it to and I hope it does but if it doesn't I'd be willing to bet that you'll be stuck with a broken scope. When I first became interested in long range/tactical shooting I didn't understand the importance of quality optics. I took the advice of several people on here and started biting the bullet and buying quality optics and I've never regretted it! I do understand however that few people can justify having a $2000 scope but there are some pretty decent scopes out there at an affordable price.

As far as your tag goes, leave it if you want to, I could really care less. I am an LE "sniper" and I went through a "sniper" school but I don't think I've really earned that title like the military snipers on here have. My advice would be to remove it if you want to continue to participate on this forum. There is a wealth of knowledge on here but like some above said, most of these guys won't take you serious and will be less likely to offer their knowledge to you because of that tag. But like I said, it doesn't matter to me, just some friendly advice!

Happy Shooting!

Thanks for the advice on the scope and tag, I am new to this site and did not know how serious others took it. If one of the other two could have simply sent me a PM stating this instead of posting it in a open forum, I would have gladly changed it. I am not trying to offend others like some on this site do, calling new people out in an open forum does not look good for this site or the people on it. I hope other new people do not receive the same welcome I did. Most of us are man enough and adult enough to treat people with respect. I too am a Federal LEO, however not a sniper, it was simply a name that fellow hunting friends have giving me over the years, so I thought I would use it. Since it has cause some to loose sleep, I will change it ...

You are right a pm would have been better. Glad to see it changed though. We have way to many fakes here on the hide that just use the web to Fulfill their alter egos as some made up military sniper which is usually caused from a little too much TV and call of duty four. It also helps when people fill their entire profile out so we know who we are talking to. Glad to see you are another LEO,what federal department are you with? Also the vortex crossfire from SWFA for $100 is the best scope for a cheap price out there and most of us guys on here try to use fellow Hide vendors to help contribute to the site. Good luck with your shooting passion.
