Vectronix Vector X vs Sig Kilo 10k Gen II

Get the Sigs. Vectronix won't warranty any damage from use. I have the Vectors and they really are a quality product but you drop them once and it's a $3K brick. I think SIG owners would want to debate the glass quality between the two but frankly the topic of which binos are the best just isn't the bigger issue. A nicer set of binos isn't going to get you more points during a match. The difference in quality just doesn't manifest in a meaningful way and the bigger consideration becomes who's going to fix or replace your $3K binos WHEN your tripod blows over. With SIGs you can call them up and tell them you straight up broke your binos out of negligence and they'll send you a new pair. With Vectronix, it's buy once, cry once. You buy them, something happens to them, and then you get to cry because you just blew $3K.

I was shooting a match and we were having legit 40+mph winds. I almost packed it up and left two stages earlier but I didn't want to quit something, so I stayed. A guy was shooting his stage and I was spotting for him. He finished and went to pick up his brass and looked back at the squad. No one was helping him. At this point you either needed to have a hand on your tripod or fold the lags and just lay it down so it wouldn't blow over. He looked at me and I felt guilty, I saw piece of brass behind him next to his foot and I thought I'll just pick that one up real quick. As soon as I took my hand off the tripod and took a step it blew over. The arca mount broke off and an eyepiece popped off. I was pissed. The screws holding the arca mount on pulled right out of the magnesium housing and pulled housing material with them. Like little helicoils. Luckily the rotating eyepiece popped back on. I emailed Vectronix customer service asking if there's any way to fix the binos. About a week later Matti replied, apologized for the delay in responding and said they would look at my photos and get back to me to see what could be done. Another 5 days or so he responded to ask some questions about the screws that I had already explained. I responded and asked about different solutions, like drilling the other barrel for the arca mount. Another week, he responds with some other stuff about screw length, doesn't answer my direct questions. This goes back and forth for about 5 weeks and ends up with their fix. He said the Area 419 mount had longer screws and asked if I would like to try "that" to get some additional thread engagement in my blown out holes. I said yes I would try that. And then nothing. That was it. I guess the solution was they researched some screws for me and I should go buy them and try them. That's it. Fucking joke. So I went to Home Depot and bought a drill and tap kit, opened the holes up, threaded them and used plastic socket head screws from McMaster Carr and bolted the arca mount back on. And that's it.

It's clear Vectronix doesn't want to do anything to fix your binos, they just want the appearance of customer service. It would probably be different if one day your display just didn't come on, or your laser was off, but if it's clearly user caused damage, they ain't touching it. And to be fair that is very much a Euro mindset. Keep in mind, in German speaking countries average Joe walks around with a general purpose liability damage insurance. Like if you were over at your buddies house for dinner and you accidentally knocked over lamp on a side table. He would absolutely expect you to pay for it. And you have insurance for just this type of thing. That's a euro mindset. The problem is, the paradigm has changed with SIGs and Vortex warranties. $3K gets you 10'ish years of new binos from SIG. User error or not. And I've seen them turn around replacements inside of 3 days to get a new pair in someone's hands for the match or hunt that coming weekend. It takes Matti 7 - 10 days just to respond to the last exchange in a month long email chain.

Sounds like buy twice, cry twice with Vectronix if you break them. Potentially, you’ll need to buy new binos

Dont disagree with the overall message of your post. Just wanted to pipe up and say that for guys used to alpha glass for hunting, the 10k g2 will not live up to their experience optically. I think I'd need Geovids or swaros to be able to live with solely RF binos for western hunting but the reliability, lazers, and speed of those doesn't live up to the Sigs/Vectors.

surprised you even got emails back. I had a similar terrible experience with my dad's Terrapin, and I will never buy something from them again.

I have the Sig's and sort of assumed the Vectors would be better. But I shoot matches every weekend, and at least half my boys have them, and the consensus is that they really may not be. Not worse, but not considerably better. The sigs seem to be able to range anything the Vectors can, now this is purely in a competitive PRS scenario. Targets inside 1500, but many of them are very small and very hard to range, depending on the lighting. Some of them tell me they prefer the readout on the sigs, and while we all assume the glass is better, I don't know if that's as obvious as expected either. And my eyes are used to alpha class scopes, so I can usually tell the difference. I am not saying they are better; I just assume the Vectors are, but many of us use each other's binos interchangeably during these matches. I regularly get comments like "wow, I kind of prefer those," which is worth noting.

Mine blew over at a match and scratched the left occular lens, victronix said they are not fixing them but offered me a replacement pair for $1500, and i send mine in. I dont think the scratch is bad enough to spend $1500 yet but at least it is something. I was hoping they would allow me to send them in to be repaired for maybe $4-500.

I had the Sig 10k Gen1 and it was honestly a good piece of equipment. If the Gen2 is that much better, the only think Vectronix will be nicer in is likely to be the glass... but not THAT much better. It likely depends just how far you plan to shoot. I had no issues at 1100 yards with the Sigs... and no LFR is magic; all LRFs have their issues.

The hard reticle is nice in the Vectors. And if you want a bit more magnification 12X is also nice.

I get your overall point about customer service differences among companies, but in all fairness your claim is not a warranty claim in any way, shape or form. It was operator error, not a failure of the equipment to perform as designed. I would love to have the comfort of knowing they will do more for customers in situations like this (after all, my vector x’s blew over on a tripod during a match, too) but I’m not holding it against them that they elected not to consider it a warranty issue. And also, kudos to you for being honest with them about the cause. I’m guessing most wouldn’t be as forthcoming.

Also, I had a not super positive experience with Sig’s “warranty.” I sent them a pair of kilo’s that wouldn’t range even a water tower 600 yards and out—straight out of the sealed box, never in the field. They sent them back and told me they tried them at the office and were able to range 400 something yards, the farthest they could access. Duh, that wasn’t the issue. As far as I was concerned they’re an expensive desk ornament. And I still bought the kilo gen2.

The point is comparison of warranties as a purchase decision. I would agree if it weren't for the fact that Vectronix competitors are well known for warranting above and beyond. Given the difference on a competitive market, there is a loss in value proposition for Vectronix.

You’ve never had to deal with those asshats. I had a pure customer service issue with a terrapin and they sucked ass. Unavailable, and completely unhelpful when I didn’t give up and finally got the one guys email they had anointed to avoid CS issues.

Correct, I didn’t call or email to ask them to ‘warranty’ damage caused by my negligence. I can only speak for my own situation and the other guy above who is salty about the situation. Hopefully true CS issues are handled better now with Eurooptic.

Now you're ad lib'ing and trying to add nuance that was never stated. Clearly you're biased. And in an argumentative mood; trying to quibble in semantics. But let me set the record straight. I never asked for anything for free. We never got to a point of even talking about payment. I was just asking if it could be fixed. I would pay for a repair. But it was clear Vectronix didn't want to even attempt anything. That's the point guy.

Laughable. One of us knows what a warranty is, one does not. You got mad because I said it wasn’t a warranty issue but a customer service issue. Refer to your post, post 5 in this thread (“Vectronix won't warranty any damage from use.“).

Have a great weekend.
Yes and that sucks compared to “do whatever the fuck you want and we still cover replacement”

That was not Sig’s response to me with a brand new defective - not damaged- kilo 10k. As with everything, YMMV.
Well, someone else posted a 10k G1 fucked up and they sent them a NIB G2 so anecdotal stories are just that. You’re arguing semantics is ignorant. A better warranty is a better warranty. That’s what is being discussed not anecdotal experiences of which CS agent they got for their claim. It’s more difficult to control that…albeit controllable.

Honestly, keep the Fury’s and invest elsewhere if you have the AB Fury’s. If you are going from non-ballistic Fury’s, that’s a different story.

Here's another argument against thinking you're going to get some 7% more performance for $2K more in LRF. You still can't lase point targets with the 12X vectors. You still have to lase the base of a target to get an accurate range. It's not like, when faced with a 45% IPSC at 600yds up on a t-post the guy with Vectors can hit the target reliably while the guy with a lower end SIG has to stick to lasing the base of the target stand in the ground.
