I just now have about 350 rds through my rifle and have just this weekend noticed what appears to be an increase in velocity.
I went out to update zero's this past weekend at 600, 800, and 900 yds and noticed i was shooting 0.3 MOA high on every target?

Vwelocity is my only guess as to why.....has anyone else experienced this?

Re: velocity change with rifle break in?

How did the temperature compare to last time you were shooting? Most of my velocity changes can be tracked back to changes in ambient. Also what powder? Same lot?

What was the humidity, density altitude? did they change? My guess is local conditions were probably different enough to cause the change.

Re: velocity change with rifle break in?

Yeah , all powder, bullets, brass, same. It was eearly morning shooting which is my usual. Only thing I can think is that a storm was developing a couple miles away and maybe the Baro pressure was lower because of it...I wouldnt expect that much difference but ???

Re: velocity change with rifle break in?

Hey Skinny,

Yes, it is not uncommon for a barrel to "break-in" after 100-200 rounds. I gained 120 fps on my 260 after about 150-200 rounds. It's a Bartlein 1:8.5" barrel. It was the same load I had been using, and accuracy stayed the same, if not improved. I started hitting high during a match, and adjusted for it. After the match, I chrono'd, and the velocity was running where I originally wanted it. So, yes, it is not uncommon for speeds to pick up after a barrel gets some rounds down the tube.

Thanks, ...I need to get out and Chrono some of these loads to make sure but it seemed like thats what was up. I dont think i gained that much but I do think I got probably 25fps.
