Why even bother with an indicator of you are just going to throw it in a 3 jaw chuck anyway? I'm not a machinist but i have ran enough machines to know you have to pick one or the other. Keep your fancy paintjob and true the work.

I see no upside to f-ing around with a 3 jaw even if it is somehow adjustable per op.
In theory you can initially adjust runout on a 3 jaw and go, if all you need is accurate and concentric features based on the OD you may be ok. But if you are clamping on an exterior surface and indicating the bore? How concentric to the bore is the OD of the barrel? How parallel? Stacking tolerances eventually means you will either chase your tail forever or say fuck it it's close enough.
4 jaw is the standard for any precise work for a reason.
Very good point here. About the 3 jaw... That was interesting that they ran this job in that.
The chuck has 4 adjustment screws on the back plate so basically you have a multi jaw chuck. Its a 3 jaw adjustable chuck.
If I remember correctly it was a Bison adjustable one.

I really do not get the allure of benchrest..
That said, we all benefit from what they learn in regards to precision both in the reloading side and mechanical... AND that paint job is off the hook! I want it on my NRL22 Vudoo.. But I am sure I could never afford it..
