Ive heard that the early factory 264 win mag ammo used to be much hotter than todays offerings. Anyone know anything about this? Around what year they wussed down the 264?
you should ber able to find the date code inside the box lids that might get you the info but just shoot it over a chrono if you want the data. Back then there were not as many slow poswers like there are today the main powders for factory loading were imr 4831 and imr 4350 or Hodgdon equivilants and the 45350 was used in cartriges like the 264 win mag so those get a lot of pressure faster than loading the same cartrige with imr 7828 that is used a lot for those cartriges by factories.
If you want to shoot them they will be safe in your rifle if correctly built or sell them to a collector and either load your own ammo or buy some new factory.
Great caliber. I don't know if the factory ammo has been loaded down or not, the old Speer's reload manual I have from the 70's shows the same load as the new manual as far reloads go. Because of the description of the boxes, I'd guess your ammo was produced back in the sixty's anyway.
I think you have some "collector" ammo in those old Peters rounds. Does your your boxes have the "Keep out of reach of children" warning on them?
