    Vegas Baby!
I'm looking to upgrade my optics on my Rem 700 bolt gun and am looking to keep it under $1K. Everyone seems to rave about the PST but from what I've seen through searches - its not even out yet. So how does anyone know if its that great or not?

Primary use for the optic is long range shooting out to 1000 yds with some occasional Tac and F-class comps.

I currently have a Falcon 5.5-25x50 on my bolt gun and am planning on moving it over to my SPR AR. So far the Falcon has worked well, but I wanted to upgrade the glass on my primary precision gun.

Finally, I'm a bit concerned about total elevation potential. According to the specs on Vortex's website - the 6-24x PST has 19 Mils of elevation. I assume that's 9.5 up and 9.5 down. Even with a 20 MOA base, that's not enough for me to get to 1K. Is that spec right?

Here's a good review of the soon to be released Vortex PST:

The reason for all of the hype is that you're getting a lot of the features only found in much more expensive optics, for less than $900, (FFP, mil/mil, zero stop, Japanese glass, etc).

Scott from Vortex chimed in somewhere in another thread stating that with a 20 MOA base, there is more than enough elevation in the 6-24x50 to reach out to 1000 yards with a .308.

Nobody knows for sure, but the specs/price are great, and Vortex has earned a good reputation so far.

20 MOA = ~5.55 mils, so it should have roughly 15 mils of "up" to work with with a 20 MOA base... that'll get you well beyond 1000 with a .308.

I can't wait for my 6-24 PST to arrive.

Ok, fair enough. With my 175 SMK load, I currently need about 11 mils to get to 1K - so that works.
