Anyone know the main differences between these two sites other than who they are built by and the $300 price difference?

Ive heard about people with the Vortex having their dot just go out on them randomly? Maybe that was with some of their older models??

Anyways, if I buy a vortex I could save $300 and buy more gun...Im looking at entry level M4 mid length DI with a quad rail and A2 front sight to co-witness with the optic.

What do yall think? I could get an Smith and Wesson MP Sport for about 1000-1150 or so. Pretty cheap for a weapon that works.

Thanks - but I could use some more input as to what will really work? Is the Aimpoint worth the cash or will the Vortex work just fine?

Dont want to have to worry about loosing zero if I remove it etc....or the dot crapping out on me which I have heard about some vortex's in the field. Maybe I shouldnt be cheap and just get the Aim Pro....

The Vortex is a great value. Anything electronic can fail but Aimpoint will absolutely have a lower failure rate. It will also have a higher shock rating and better water seals.

Will it be for home defense.

It'll be used for both self defense and a cqb weapon. My main m4 style weapon is a Daniel defense but I want something I can't beat the hell out of and doesn't have to be impeccable for weapons inspection.

it is a great optic for the money. the only thing that I do not care for on mine is the controls sticking out on the left side are in my view when shooting both eyes open. it is ok but distracting

Re: Viper Vortex Strikefire vs Aimpoint Pro Optic

I use a Strikefire for carbine matches and it has done great so far. I've had to change the battery once in two years, which brings me to the only thing I dislike about the Strikefire. The on/off switch is easily depressed and sticks out, so it gets accidentally turned on. I would say 75% of the time I take my rifle out of my soft case, the Strikefire is already on. If Vortex would fix this, I would definitely buy another one. Until then, I'll continue to use the one I've got, but when I'm in the market for another sight, I will probably look elsewhere. I've got no experience with Aimpoints, but if I had the money, that's what I'd buy.

Re: Viper Vortex Strikefire vs Aimpoint Pro Optic

Ive had my Vortex for over a year and I've never had to put in a new battery. I wouldnt say I abused mine by any means but it was on my coyote/hog hunting gun and then got switched to my 870. Its been through rain, snow, mud, fine silty sand in Texas and Ive never had a hiccup. I wouldnt think twice about using it for self defense.

Re: Viper Vortex Strikefire vs Aimpoint Pro Optic

The only thing that I don't like about the vortex is the position of the power button. It would be better if it was on the back. Being on the side it can get bumped on ( or off I am sure) easy. Has happend twice to me when putting gun in case for travel. Get to destination and the dot is on when gun is pulled out. Other than that the Strikefire has proven to be rugged and dependable and a bargin. Mine has been mounted only on a 50 beowulf and has held up perfect.

Also While I don't own just vortex optics I do own quite a few and the warranty can not be beat. They put it in writing that they will cover ANYTHING. This gives me an extra piece of mind. When I looked at spotting scopes it was really no choice. I got a Vortex Razor HD and the deciding factor of spending $2000 was the warranty. I know that if it is on my tripoid and it somehow gets knocked over and crashes to the ground vortex will take care of it NO questions asked. Best I can tell every optic they sell has the VIP warranty so $169 Crossfire II to a $2000 Razor you are covered.

Re: Viper Vortex Strikefire vs Aimpoint Pro Optic

Just a repeat of the above, but the Strikefire has been on my 3gun AR for about a year with only a few minor complaints. 1. Is as everyone else said, the controls are too easy to hit. Most of the time I get to the range bench and pull my rifle out, the sight is already on. 2. Is the O-rings on the optic caps. Notva big deal, but both ends have stretched, pinched and torn.

All that being said.... I have a new one waiting to go on my SBR.

Re: Viper Vortex Strikefire vs Aimpoint Pro Optic

I think I'm going to have to go with the Aimpoint, I just can't see myself going with something that isn't isn't built is well or have near the reputation or combat proven stats as the Aimpoint sights do. If someone said they had one that still worked after having an insurgent put a round through it I would reconsider.

Until then, I just have to suck it up and spend some more morney..

Oh yeah, if you guys have some ideas on building a kick ass totally reliable M4 mid length with a 6 position std stock and a flattop upper with a quad rail forfend (doesn't have to be free floated.....midwest industries or Troy). Let me know.. I'm trying to put together a parts list so I can build my own M4 to say money. I'll slap an Aimpoint pro on front and co witness wait with the A2 front sight. I think I can do it for about 1k with the optic and that with a decent barrel. Anyone who can send me a parts lost of who has done a similar project would be most helpful.

Re: Viper Vortex Strikefire vs Aimpoint Pro Optic

If you plan on trusting your or your families life on it, there is only on choice. Aimpoint hands down everytime.

I really like vortex, but when I gear up for work the aimpoint is the only one that goes with me.
