That’s fine for someone on the west side of the state. If I drive to the South end of my county and back home it’s over 300 miles. If want to make a Costco run it’s 260. Good way to fuck the rural folk.
I'm OK with toll roads; let the people that use the road pay for it. I'm not putting any electronic gadget in my truck though.

Yep, that costco run using 1.7 cents for the VMT and 18 cents for the current gas tax has the VMT being about $4.42 and the gas tax being about $3.
Now it'd be really shitty if they left the gas tax in, which would make it nearly $8 just to drive 260 miles.
Also not gonna install (and certainly not going to pay for voluntarily) a GPS tracker on any of my vehicles.
Something needs to be done about the elec car folks driving their taxpayer subsidized car around on roads they aren't paying for.

EXACTLY. Back in the 80's there was no state fuel tax on diesel. This was to keep shipping cheap and personal diesel owner ship was less than 3% at the time. Buy 1989 diesel ownership had risen to about 15% and the same argument caused the gas tax to be added to diesel fuel. Next came propane/natural gas. It took about a decade to get a "road tax" added to those fuels.
Natural gas uses a special filler fitting so if you use a pump that has that fitting it is taxed (vs home use). Propane if the tank is permanently mounted in the vehicle it gets taxed.
It would be easy to do that with electric vehicles.
There is no fucking way, i repeat NO FUCKING WAY. Iam mounting or allowed to be mounted a government tracking device on my vehicles. My car insurance offers a discount for such a thing and I told them to take that device and shove it.

If you read the article I posted about cash going away, there's a section in there where Obama is on a mission to get world-wide cooperation to learn, monitor, and tax, on a global scale (via a global minimum tax) for wealth stored any-damn-where in the world. Basically forming a coalition of banks that share information about who has what in terms of wealth and assets.

We have "off road diesel" for farm/construction equipment. it is about $0.20 cheaper. which is weird since the state tax on diesel is $0.28. It is dyed red. the local air force base uses diesel dyed purple. Every couple years your hear about someone who is stopped at the gate leaving the base and fuel checked. If it is purple your in trouble.

Just say this VMT goes national, who gets to foot the bill for State and Federal Cars, police vehicles, municipal ambulances, school buses, fire trucks? And you can bet if it does happen, we will get stuck with this with even more taxes. Utility vehicles if taxed, will add to our electric, gas, internet and other services. When will this ever end?
