Need to load several hundred rounds at a time. Got access to a harrel powder thrower, lee powder cups and a scale. The scale will most likely be more accurate but alot more time consuming. The harrel powder thrower will be the fastest.

My question is how much variance will I see overe the long haul using the powder thrower or the cups and how much will it affect real world hits at distance? Hopefully someone has some gainful expierence they can share.

Thanks, Javy.

Re: volume loading....

What distance are you shooting and what size targets do you want to hit?

You're still probably going to wan to weigh each charge. The harells is nice but only as repeatable as you are

Re: volume loading....

A uniflow RCBS provides me with 1/2-3/4 MOA consistently from my Custom 223 XPR-100. The Harrell's is light years ahead of that and should be fine unless you need to shoot past about 300yds. It takes time and talent to learn to work a powder measure correctly so I can't guarantee your results. It is not just simply grabbing the handle and cranking it as you please without a set cadence and rhythm.

Re: volume loading....

I just did this with a Harrells Culver measure and found that +/- ~50fps on a .243Win running ave speed 2950fps..

Using DOP3.com you can easily see that this type of velocity variation will result in a +/- 0.3MIL accuracy hit at 1000yrd (+/-10.8")

I found that the accuracy to 600yrds was very good when shooting 2MOA steel... not so good beyond 700rds..

But it's surely fast!!

Hope this helps

Dop3.com is dead.

Re: volume loading....

I use a scale to measure every charge I shoot that will go long range. My PD, and blasting ammo is all loaded on a Dillon XL650. If this is close range ammo throw and go is the only way to go. As stated above many short range bench rest guys do that. Once distances start to grow your groups will show the different powder charges.
