Looking for a scope that will occasionally used for hunting, but live mostly on my Sig 716 DMR. Considering a Vortex PST GenII 2-10 FFP, but should I consider the 1-10 Razor? I have both PSTs & Razors (in different magnifications) and no doubt the Razor is superior, but at twice the cost not sure I can justify. MIL is a must - no MOA.

Currently have a Vortex 1-6 PST which is a SFP. Got it because the price was right which was a mistake. Did not realize how much I disliked the SFP or how the turrets were & how it felt compared to my other FFP scopes. My hunting will be up to 250 yards or so with a 450 Bushmaster, which I am sure will be like shooting longrange w/ a bottleneck cartridge. Not to mention, with my old eyes at that range 10X vs. 6X will be welcome.

Morning,

I think either scope would work on the platform. I run a couple 2.5-10's myself. that said, I always try to step up when I can, you never regret having better optics. Also have set up a couple AR10 platforms with that Razor 1-10 and I like it a lot. it's a good size, the 1x is handy, and on 10x it feels good, I shot out to 600 with one. my only concern with the razor would be low light performance if you wanted a little more magnification in that situation, but I think the added optical quality will make up for that.

Both will work for your application very well
Both have good low light abilities
Razor is go to war dirt tough be the best
PST is great scope that works fantastic while keeping price down.

I would not hesitate with either.
I run PST’s and Razors and both are great scopes.

I ran the Razor G3 for 1.5 years and there are things I really like about it, and some things that I really dont like about it.

At 1x, its the best red-dot optic I have ever looked through. It is just crazy nice.

But at above 8-ish power the optics really starts to struggle, and the contrast and brightness and eyebox falls short.

The thing that really got to me though, is the semi transparent centerdot and segmented cirkle around it. It really sucks for precision shots. And the turrets, even if they are capped are pretty mediocre too.

I have looked through the Viper 2.5-10x and at 10x it is alot better than the Razor, with way better contrast. But obviously you miss out on the 1x. And to me, 2.5x is too much for shooting fast with both eyes open.

So, if your priority is more magnification and precision shooting, id go for the Viper or something better than both of these scopes.
If you really need a great 1x red dot type optic, and can live with the compromized optical performance at above 8x, the Razor is pretty decent. I do however find that the Nightforce NX8 1-8x is far superior to both of them, with its compact size, great glass, great illumination and great turrets too... But maybe that is just me?

Take a look at the Razor LHT scope also. Sounds like you are wanting to dial so get a scope meant to dial and not capped. Also sounds like you don’t need the 1x for your hunting so a 3-15x with the higher mag for the bad eyes might be a better option.

If your eyes aren't perfect the reticle of the razor gen 3 gets real thin for hunting. Maybe cranking the illumination up will make it easy enough to find, but it would not be my first choice were rapid target finding important.

There are other companies besides vortex.
A 10x erector is extremely hard to pull off. The razor is one of the better ones out there, and as noted, has compromises.
As far as LPVO's, a 1-8 has fewer optical compromises.
A 2-10, being a 5x erector, is an excellent choice. There are others besides the Vortex. I would rather have a 40 or even 44 objective, but that PST II really checks a lot of boxes.
I would rather have the 2-10 and an RDS than the 1-10.

I had a the Vortex PSTII 2-10 mil/mil on my Mk12 before I decided to go "clone correct" Leupold because I found a screaming deal. The Vortex left me wanting absolutely nothing. Glass was great and for using out to 1000y was no issue. Top mount red dot solves the "what if im clearing rooms with my DMR" question.

I love that scope myself, have one on my 280 AI
