I'm hoping to hear from some objective Vortex PST owners. The SFP Vortex 2.5-10x44mm is on my list for a hunting scope, and I'd like to hear your thoughts on glass quality.

I own the 2.5-10x32mm model. I love it. I also own the 6-24x50mm model. I love that one too. I previously owned the 4-16x50mm FFP model. I thought the glass was dull, and down-right blurry at 16x. It gave me headaches after long shooting sessions.

Based on this, can someone help me understand where the glass quality of the 2.5-10x44mm PST might fall?

    Thanks

I have two of the 2.5-10x44, one is on a 223 bolt gun and the other on a semi. I use them both for hunting yotes, I really like them, it would be hard to beat them for the price. I'm planning to upgrade to the new nightforce but I don't feel handicapped with the PST, they have served me well.

I use one on my hunting AR. I have read the stuff about the glass but to be honest I can't see it. I believe there might be a little parallax but for hunting purposes it is not enough to cause a miss at several hundred yards. Overall I am happy with the scope and features for what I paid.

Having owned the 2.5-10x44, the 2.5-10x32 FFP, and both flavors of 4-16x50, I would rate the 2.5-10x44 as the worst of the bunch, behind the 4-16x50 models (which to me were OK until about 13x and fuzzy above that). The 2.5-10x32 FFP model has dramatically better clarity at full magnification than any of the others.

Since you are presumably interested in SFP, why not the Steiner 2.5-10x42mm Predator Xtreme? Less than $500 after rebate, German glass, assembled in USA. It is more a hunter scope than a tactical, but if that meets your needs I'd take a look:

Steiner 2.5-10x42mm Predator Xtreme Hunting Riflescope w/ Plex S-1 Reticle FREE S&H 5001. Steiner Rifle Scopes.

The Sightron SIII 3.5-10x44mm is also a VERY nice scope optically, for around $600-650 depending on model (available in mil/mil, illuminated moa/moa, or mil/moa). And after that, I'd look at the SS 3-9x or another Viper PST 2.5-10x32mm.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. You've given me a lot to think about. I am still worried about glass quality. I'm a bit spoiled by my high-end scopes, and these other PSTs that are known to have better image quality.

    Lots to consider

    Thanks
