Vortex 2.5-10x44 PST v Leupold 3-9x40 VX-R Patrol.

I would like everyone's opinion on these scopes. It will go on my AR-15 carbine.

They are the same price, comparable in length and weight.

I like the field of view on the Vortex. But Leupold is Leupold.

I narrowed it down to these two, but if there's something else I would like to hear about it.

do you mean leupold is leupold for the warranty? or just the name? if it's for the warranty than I wouldn't worry about that while purchasing a Vortex product. They have the best warranty in the business.

I live in leupold country and get grief for not liking them all of the time. I just think there are better options when it comes to leupold in the same price ranges.

Bulzeye I'm more interested in the glass quality, the turrets, The scope functioning properly.

That what meant Leupold is Leupold. Leupold has a very good reputation for quality.

I hope I won't need the warranty.

Vortex warranty can't be touched... I'm currently doing a budget build with a remmy 700 (sorta like Lonewolf did here on the hide) and spent a little more on the glass. The vortex will not disappoint... matching reticle, positive/audible clicks, clean glass, passed my box test and as I stated b4... their warranty is outstanding. I do wish it had a parallax function/knob. Overall, vortex did a great job for the asking price.

I think they HAD a good reputation for quality back in the early 90's and before. I used to work retail in an outdoor store and the only scopes that got sent back more than leupold was bushnell.

Glass is comparable so comes down to what features you want/don't want. FWIW super sniper 3-9 has better glass but no illumination they are 500$ on samplelist.com.

You're going to get lots of responses to that one...

exactly, they still have a great reputation because every old timer in a local gun shop that hasn't followed optics in years still say they are the best. then folks get them and assume that is what a good scope is like because then never try anything else. when they do they dont think there lupy is quite as good as they thought

Re: Vortex 2.5-10x44 PST v Leupold 3-9x40 VX-R Patrol

I am waiting on a VX-R 3-9X40. I looked at all different scopes but after some consideration I opted for it. I like the small size plus the lower profile turrets.

The rifle is a Tikka T3 stainless Lite in 30-06. This rifle will be going on a backpack, so smaller and less parts protruding the better. I didnt want to spend big dollars on this scope either because it and the rifle are not going to see a good life.

Cheers

Re: Vortex 2.5-10x44 PST v Leupold 3-9x40 VX-R Patrol

I took a chance on the VXR 3-9 model for my coyote rifle (muchas gracias Libertyoptics!!!!).

Good:

Lightweight and sleek
Leupie finally figured out how to put mil click turrets and a fast-focus eyepiece on a scope
Reticule doesn't seem to have the infamous leupold cant
Nifty illumination system with a bright center dot

Negs:

Image quality is mediocre

So far it is what I expected, should have a range report in a couple days.

I bet if you compare the PST, SS, and Leupold the Leupold comes out on top. Oh wait I already did that...

Re: Vortex 2.5-10x44 PST v Leupold 3-9x40 VX-R Patrol

Bumping this thread for interest. I am debating between these 2 optics.
Have heard that both are good for the money, with solid warranties.
But looking for any further input if possible. Thanks

Re: Vortex 2.5-10x44 PST v Leupold 3-9x40 VX-R Patrol

I got back into town, and decided to buy the Vortex 2.5-10x44 PST. I would like to thank everyone for their input.

I went by SWFA twice and Skylar was very helpful and patent in helping me make up my mind.

I would highly recommend anyone looking to buy a scope to contact Skylar@SWFA.
