I have been contemplating purchasing a couple Vortex Crossfires as a cheap scope so I don't have to constantly move a Nightforce when I want to go shoot a different rifle or upper. Until I save enough coin to buy a couple more Nightforces. This plan seemed sound as I have heard good things about them. A friend bought one and it looked decent but one of the internal lenses had a couple specs on it so he sent it back in and SWFA swapped it out with no problems. So that scope was never mounted. Next scope arrives this one we mounted on my M1A as he is still building his Grendel but wanted to see how it worked. As I attempted to zero it the clicks didn't seem to produce a consistent change. Just about the time I was getting close to zero (23 rounds fired total) the whole reticle shifted and rotated about 30 degrees clockwise. At first I thought the scope had shifted in the rings but it was rock solid. As I looked more closely the piece that holds the illumination adjustment was loose and rotating side to side as well.
SWFA and Vortex have been great to deal with on these returns Vortex has offered to replace with the same model or credit my friend his purchase price towards a higher end model.
Where I am going with all of this rambling is how common is this and should I just wait to buy a viper or save more coin and hold out longer for another Nightforce to avoid the hassle
Thanks
Jamie
