So I am on a very limited budget and do not shoot all the time but swfa has the vortex on sale for $99 bucks but im wondering if this is to much optic to put on a 24inch heavy barrel ar-15 i set up for kinda long range plinking as well as maybe a coyote here and there and my other question it is a mil-dot system i have no experience with mil-dot am i getting in over head and ofr being this inexpensive is this a decent optic since i will not be changing this for quite sometime, really greatful for your insight,

Thanks Happy Holidays

A $100 scope is a $100 scope. It will work okay up to 10X or so and they "gray out". Adjustments will be questionable as will durability. You would be far better off with a quality used scope w/o mil dots. A 40 year old Weaver K6, 8 or 10 is a far superior to this Chinese crap. There is no such thing as a slightly good 6-24 scope for less than $500.00.

Have you actually used one or are you making an assumption? It appears to be an assumption as your opinion is drastically different than hundreds of others.

Picked up one of these this week. I think the non-promo price is just over $200.00.
I'd disregard that other poster's advise, clearly hasn't seen one of these.
I have it mounted on my .22 rimfire and have not zeroed or shot it yet but looking through it it's both clear and bright from 6x through 24x with good parallax adjustment.
You always worry about low priced scopes being un-servicable but image wise this is a pretty good unit, espessially considering it's just a 1 inch tube. It helps that the optics are fully multi-coated as opposed to just having the exterior of the ocular and objective being coated. Even better is that the units are nitrogen purged.

No idea yet how it tracks in real life, but I did lock the rifle in a vise and static track the scope on a target at 25 yards.
Seems to work as advertised thus far.
I plan on running it to 200 yards tomorrow which should consume about 51-53 moa from a 100 yard zero, so things will become more clear at that time.
