I need a new scope for my AR carbine to shoot 50 to 200 yards. It will be mounted on my burris pepr qd 1" tube. I don't want to spend too much money and I don't plan to mess around too much with the turrets. I'll just zero it at 100 yards and hold over for longer shots.

I have narrowed down my options between vortex diamondback 3-9x40 and Nikon P-223 3-9x40.

Is one better than the other (glass quality and holding zero)?
Any concerns in not having parallax adjustments on these scopes?

Here is a great write-up that mr. Ilya Koshkin did over at opticstalk.com
In short, the Diamondback came out on top of the 3-9x40 shootout, and would get my vote for sure. I like Vortex's bdc reticle. And, if by some miracle you could find a discountinued Viper 2-7x32, they were some of the best scopes ever made under $200. Love the one on one of my ARs (with bdc) and got it for $179 on close out. The C-plex is a great AR reticle too, IMO.

Thanks,
Great reading.

I can't find the 2-7X32 scope you mentioned, but the 2-7X35 is available and is actually $10 cheaper than the 3-9X40. I'm thinking of getting the 2-7X32. It's almost the same size and weight as the 3-9, but I like the 2X magnification (I think it suites better an AR carbine).

Yeah, the little vipers are hard to find nowadays. That 2-7x diamondback I think would be great on an AR. They've got about 64' field of view @2x, compared to around 45' for most other 2x scopes, this is what the diamond back series is famous for. Another noteworthy competitor would be the Burris 2-7x35 Fullfield E1 Rifle Scope
It has a really useful looking reticle, though I haven't looked through one yet. Another direct competitor in this range is the Weaver 2-10x38 Classic V Rifle Scope It has become a hall-of-famer over the years.
