I've actually got the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 EBR-1 MOA FFP on order and I'm having second thoughts about just waiting for the Sightron S3 6-24x50 w/MOA SFP. I have owned a Sightron before and their optics seemed to better than my Luepold and I was really pleased with their product. I had read a lot about FFP vs. SFP. My question for anyone that can help is, how much if any benefit is the FFP over the SFP reticules? I was able to look through one of the new Vortex PST's at the hunting expo in Salt Lake City yesterday and I really had a hard time seeing the reticule on low setting. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You'll probably get more input and more traffic on this topic if it were in the Optics forum instead of the Bear Pit. You might ask a mod to move it for you.

Re: Vortex or Sightron

*IF* you don't need FFP, the MOA/MOA Sightron SIII LR is going to give Vortex a lot of competition in this price range I think. The glass in the SIII scopes is WAY above it's price bracket and if what Scott says about the adjustments being good on the proto's, these will be VERY good scopes. The only thing I didn't like was the .25MOA aiming dot. Not necessary on a SFP scope and just takes a nice thin reticle and makes it thick again.

Call Scott @Liberty... he'll help you sort it out.

Re: Vortex or Sightron

I was thinking along the same lines but after talking to Sightron today, I think I'll just go with the Vortex. Sightron told me the same thing today as they told me 1 month ago and that is the new scopes won't be to their warehouse for another 60 to 90 days. Now it makes me wonder when they will actually show up. I figure either way I can't go wrong.

There is something to be said for a bird in the hand. Of course two different birds sitting in two different bushes present a completely different conundrum.
