I am going to buy a new higher end scope and would like your opinions of the two scopes. I woud like
MIL and FFP. The $400 difference between the two is not a factor.

It will eventually go on a 6.5 CR. which I will have custom made or will just purchase ready made from one of the gun companies.

For now it will go on my .223 Savage.

I plan on shooting steel at 1,000 yards or further if the 6.5 will reach. I may even enter a competion down the line shooting at 600-1000 yards.

Thanks for your input and advice.

Look at the number of people who have had to send in their scope for repair. I guarantee you more people have sent in vortex than nightforce. 15x is plenty for a 6.5cm Buy the nightforce f1, it is a great scope.

Have had NF for years and just put up a Vortex. The Vortex glass is nice, was able to get good repeatability out of it on a box test. I'd say the big issue is if you think the added 5x will really be needed? Either way, good choices.

Be safe,

YES!! I have sent in both Vortex scopes, one twice. Got them back and got rid of them. So I am not a fan of them.... but here is a lil something to think about... a member of the hide and I went out and he has a 6.5 CR and we were hitting steel at 1435 yds. we missed more than we hit but it will reach out there.

Remember... your scope can take your gun to the next level but your gun will never take your scope...

I can be pretty hard on gear and can be quite clumsy. I've had spill with a lot of optics and Nightforce scopes will take a beating. The F1 on my comp rifle fell about 5' on the first stage of a match last year landing on the scope. It landed hard enough to dent the eyepiece in and shear off one of the nubbins on the power ring. I got multiple hits on that stage and took second place. Not many other scopes would have continued to perform and from my experience with vortex (every one of them breaking from moderate use) I doubt it would have survived that. I also doubt it would have survived the bullet hole like a night force did and kept running.

Reliability is always #1 for me and I'm confident that night force gives me that. I know many like more magnification so I can see where that would be an issue. I rarely use my F1 at full power, I'm typically (5-12x) depending on the range. Just enough to spot my own hits or misses but a nice wide field of view for getting on the next target without having to mess with the magnification. I also like how the whole eyepiece rotates so you can just grab it, no agile finger tip stuff like you have to do when a mag ring is in between a scope ring with a level and/or ACI hanging off of it and a illumination knob.

They work and they work well. However if you shoot better with a bunch of magnification and mirage doesn't lose much of an issue you may be better off spending the extra $$ for the beast or getting something else.
