I am currently narrowing my list of scopes to the Vortex Razor HD AMG 6-24x50 - MOA, and a Schmidt Bender PMII 5-25x56 DT P4FL2-MOA SFP 1/4 MOA .

I am looking for the best all around scope for a Vodoo gun works ridgeback. I am looking to get back into shooting after going through near fatal bone caner. I have no experience with either scope, and looking for advice on what scope would be the better investment for the long run, good quality glass , quality construction , and accurate adjustability.

I know that the reticle on the S&B is second focal plane and the razor is ffp, I like both reticles on each in moa (what I'm more aclamated to using).

I will mostly be using the rifle for target, some silloette and varmint eradicating, I might even try my hand at some bench rest shooting at a later date.

I would like to know what your thoughts would be on these two scopes or other suggestions. My budget is about $2300, both scopes can be purchased for almost the same price ($2249 for the S&B PMII, and $2173 for the Razor).

Thank you for any information that you can give me, I always respect the knowledge base on the hide to steer me in the right direction.

I have a premier 3-15 heritage which has similar glass to the Schmidt. I have also used the 3-12 pmii a bunch when I was in the Corps. I also have an AMG but mill mill. Feature wise the AMG wins hands down for me and it's much lighter, and has a bomproof warranty. Glass clarity and low lighy performance wise the premier and s&b seem to edge out the vortex. The vortex is good though dont get me wrong, and the extra power kinda makes up for it being edged out.

Keep in mind if you don't like the AMG it may be easier to sell given the Schmidt SFP won't have as high of demand especially for PRS guys

My opinion, and it is just that, NF and S&B > Vortex. I can't bring myself to pay top dollar for a Vortex scope. I was really considering the AMG for a light weight build, but went with another NF ATACR instead. I decided a bombproof optic was worth the few extra ounces.

If weight is a concern, the AMG is a no-brainer.

If weight is not a concern, then start looking at which reticle you like better. For me, there just isn't a reticle in the S&B lineup that I like very much at all compared to designs like the mil-C, MR4, SKMR, and SKMR3. But obviously plenty of folks disagree. I like the EBR-7B almost as much as those and much better than anything S&B offers, but it's still up to your personal preference.

If you like both reticles the same and you don't care about weight, then I agree with Awesymoto that I'd go with the FFP over the SFP. The benefit to SFP is for hunting rigs to keep the reticle use-able at low magnification. If that's not a requirement for this rig, then having a reticle that subtends correctly all the time is a big advantage compared to having to do an extra set of calculations every time you're not dialed to 25x.

I agree with Travclem. I had an AMG and while it was a very fine optic I didn't trust it like I trust my NF's. If I were you I'd search for a used ATACR 5-25 around that $2300-2400 price range. Other optics I'd rather have in that price range:

If you’re looking for sfp scope, I’ll sell you an ATACR 5-25 SFP for way under new, like new. Sold the rifle it was on, and just sitting in my safe. PM if you’re interested. MOAR reticle.
