So. Cal
I'm looking for some help on how to set the reticle focus. What magnification setting is best for this? I've tried to follow the instructions in the manual and once I set it and I try to use the side turret to finish and bring the target into focus, I just never gets nice and crisp. Any suggestions?

After set and looking through scope and have used the side parallax adjustment to take out parallax are you focusing on the reticle or target when you are getting ready to take the shot? Only one can be in perfect focus and it should be the reticle, which is what you should be focusing on for the shot.

For setting the reticle focus I generally have the scope power near max so I can see the reticle better. Have it facing the sky, but not sun obviously, or a white wall. Look through scope at only short periods of time, 2-3 seconds, and adjust in small increments. Looking through for a long period and the eye will adjust making the reticle look in focus.

I'm setting the reticle focus just like you discribed, once I'm on target it doesn't seem to matter what yardage the target is at . It just seems like I can't get the actuall target to focus just perfect with the side parrallax turret.

So you are not talking about the reticle focus but setting parallax? Just trying to be 100% sure as you asked about reticle in the first post.

Just so you know the target might not be 100% focused when parallax is taken out. The parallax adjustment is called the "side focus" but it's not a totally accurate name.

Also make sure there isn't any mirage as the mirage might mess with the target clarity as well.

Thanks, I'll try it again tomorrow at the range. My old scope was a Leupold mark 4 and I was able to adjust it so the reticle and the target where both clear. The Vortex just seems to be a little fussy even at 100 yards.
