Im looking at the Vortex Skyline model spotting scopes.

Quite frankly im not impressed at all with their rifle scopes, but have looked through the Nomad spotter, and for the money thought it was decent.

Ive found deals on both the Skyline standard and ED models.

Anybody have experience with them? Is the ED worth the extra $200???

Thanks for any help.

Re: Vortex Skyline standard vs ED spotters

I have used the Skyline ED for 5 years now and have not had any issues to deal with. I can’t really say how it compares side by side with any of the other brands because it was put to use and never questioned.

Clarity was good
Focus ability at any distance was good
Brightness was good in low light conditions if considered within reason
Mechanical breakdowns or issues none yet

It works for me well and gets the job done

Re: Vortex Skyline standard vs ED spotters

I have had both Skylines, ED and non-ED, and returned them both. The non-ED had some serious chromatic aberration and the ED version wasn't that much of an improvement. For sure not $200 better.

I replaced them with a Celestron Regal 80F-ED and couldn't be happier. It is way better than either Vortex IMO.
